공주 정지산유적 출토 백제 수키와의 연구

국문 초록

이 글은 정지산유적에서 출토된 유단식수키와의 기술적인 특징과 조합 양상, 계통, 제작시기 등을 명확하기 위해 작성되었다. Ⅱ장에서는 정지산유적에서 출토된 유단식수키와의 기술적인 특징을 검토하고 제작기법을 추정하였다. 선행 연구에서 부족했던 수키와의 제작 기법에 대한 이해를 위해 부여나 경주, 일본의 유사 사례를 참고하여 크게 2가지 유형으로 구분하고, 2유형의 제작과정을 【도면 6】과 같이 복원할 수 있었다. 정지산유적의 유단식수키와는 【도면 3】의 A1기법과 A2기법이 모두 확인되지만 양자는 태토나 크기 등이 달라 서로 다른 공방이나 공인에 의해 제작된 것으로 보인다. Ⅲ장에서는 정지산유적의 유단식수키와와 연화문수막새의 조합 관계 등을 검토하여 그 제작시기를 추정하였다. 정지산유적의 연화문수막새는 부여 동남리사지나 관현리가마터 출토품과 同笵品으로 6세기 중후반에 제작된 것으로 보인다. 그러나 이 연화문수막새가 유단식수키와와 서로 연결된 기와일 가능성은 그다지 높지 않다. 정지산유적의 유단식수키와들은 대통사지로 추정되는 반죽동 197-4번지나 204-1번지 출토 유단식수키와들과 기술적인 특징이 상통한다. 또 무령왕릉 출토 벽돌과 동일한 문양전이 함께 출토된 점을 감안하면 그 제작시기는 웅진기에 속할 가능성이 높다고 생각한다. 이곳에서 출토된 유단식수키와들은 중국 南京 지역 유단식수키와가 A1기법으로 제작되고 회전물손질한 흔적이 남아 있는 점을 볼 때 남조의 영향으로 제작되었을 가능성이 높지만, A2기법의 경우 일부 백제적인 변형이 이루어졌을 가능성을 제기하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study to examine the technical characteristics, interlocking system, genealogy and production dates of the stepped convex roof tiles discovered at the Jeongjisan Archaeological Site. Chapter II presents the main discussion, which is focused on the technical characteristics and production methods of the stepped convex tiles excavated at this site. The roof tiles are classified into two types by comparing them with similar items discovered in Buyeo, Gyeongju and Japan, and their production process, now restored, is shown in Fig. 6. The stepped convex roof tiles from the Jeongjisan Site show the use of methods A1 and A2 illustrated in Plan 3, but differences in their size and the clay used to make them suggest that they were produced by different artisans or at different workshops. The discussion presented in Chapter III addresses the relationship between, and the production dates of, the stepped convex roof tiles and the convex roof-end tiles with lotus design from the Jeongjisan Site, the latter of which are known to have been produced in the mid or late sixth century from the same mold that was used to produce the tiles discovered at the Dongnamni Temple Site and the Gwanhyeolli Kiln Site in Buyeo. However, it seems very unlikely that lotus-designed roof-end tiles with a lotus design were used along with stepped roof tiles (See Fig. 10). The stepped roof tiles from the Jeongjisan Site show the same technical features as those used in the production of the stepped convex roof tiles discovered at Sites #197-4 and #204-1 at Banjuk-dong, which are believed to have formed the site of Daetongsa Temple. Considering that the site also yielded tiles bearing the same decorative design as the ornamented bricks of the tomb of King Muryeong, these roof tiles must date back to the Ungjin-Baekje period (475-538). An analysis of the stepped convex tile roofs unearthed at the site showed that they were made using the same method (A1) as that used to produce the stepped convex tiles in the Nanjing area in China, and also revealed traces of wet polishing, suggesting that they were produced under the influence of the Southern Dynasties of China. The use of method A2, however, suggests that Baekje also played a considerable part in the production of the tiles.
