고대 일본의 등화구

국문 초록

등화구(燈火具)의 존재는 야간(夜間) 인류의 지적(知的) 활동 시간을 주고, 그야말로 문명을 밝히는위대한 발명품이었다. 일본 등화구 출현의 확실한 사례로는 고고자료에서 확인할 수 있으며 7세기 전반의 식기(食器) 전용 등화구와 조합식의 스에키(須恵器)에 사용 자국을 관찰할 수 있다. 또한 문헌자료로는 651년에 아지후노미야(味經宮)의 연등공양(燃燈供養) 기사가 처음 확인되었다. 고대 일본의 등화구는 왕권의 위신재로 도입되었을 가능성을 염두에 두어야 하지만, 현 시점에서는이에대한확실한 증거는 찾지 못하였다. 등화구가 일정한 고위 계층에 보급되는 것은 불교의 전래와 황족·귀족층에 대한 반영일 것이다. 나라시대 전반인 8세기 제2/4분기에는 불교가 전국적으로 전파되어가는 과정에서 등화구가 전국적으로 보급되었다는 사실이 확인되었다. 또한 궁도(宮都)의 등화구 증가는 율령제도에 기초한 국가 형성 및 궁인(官人)의 증가가 그 배경에 있을 것이다. 또한, 일본의 등화구는 중국과 한국의 등화구의 영향을 많이 받으며 발달해 온 것으로 밝혀졌다. 등화구는 고대 동아시아의 교류사를 웅변하고 있음을 인지할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The existence of oil lamps was a great invention that gave mankind time for intellectual activities at night and truly illuminated civilization. The appearance of oil lamps in Japan can be confirmed by archaeological materials, which show traces of their use in the first half of the 7th century in the recycled oil lamps that were originally used as tableware and in combination-type Sue ware. In addition, the article on Buddhist ritual at Ajifu-no-miya Palace in 651 is the first documented case. We must consider the possibility that ancient Japanese lamps were introduced as a prestige material for royal authority, but at present we have no solid evidence of this. The introduction of Buddhism and the penetration of the imperial family and aristocracy probably led to the spread of oil lamps among a certain level of high society. In the second quarter of the eighth century, which is the first half of the Nara period (710-794), it has become clear that the spread of oil lamps throughout the country occurred in the process of the nationwide penetration of Buddhism. The increase in the number of lamps in the imperial capitals was probably due to the formation of the state based on the Ritsuryo system and the increase in the number of government officials. In addition, it has become clear that the development of oil lamps excavated in Japan was greatly influenced by those of Ancient China and Korea. We have come to realize that lamps also eloquently illustrate the history of exchange between ancient East Asia.
