靑坡 盧道陽(1909~2004)의 백제사 연구

국문 초록

노도양은 대한지리학회 회장을 지내는 등 해방 후 한국지리학계를 이끈 핵심적인 인물이었고, 역사연구에 지리학적 연구 방법론을 도입한 학자로 중요한 연구업적을 남겼다. 그가 남긴 백제역사지리연구업적은 3편에 불과하지만, 결코 경시할 수 없다. 노도양의 백제사 연구는 모두 명지대 재직시절인 60대에 집필되었다. 그의 역사지리 연구는 일본고마자와대학에서 역사지리학을 전공한 것이 기반이 되었다. 특히 백제 역사지리에 대한 연구는 충남부여보통학교 교원으로 3년 동안 근무하면서 겪은 경험과 1952년부터 충남대학교 사학과 교수로 재직하는 도중인 1958년에 만든 백제연구회 연구위원으로 활동하면서 맺은 인연이 계기가 되었다. 노도양의 백제사 연구는 지명 비정에 초점이 맞춰졌지만, 『三國史記』와 『三國遺事』 등 각종 역사기록에 대한 철저한 검토와 비판, 『新增東國輿地勝覽』 등과 같은 지리지 기록과 고지도 및 국립지리원 발행 지형도를 활용한 지리학적 연구 방법과 국어학적 연구 방법론까지 활용한 것이었다. 그리고 현장 답사를 중시했다. 이러한 연구 방법론은 오늘날의 역사연구 방법론으로도 매우 유용하고타당한 면이 있다.

영문 초록

Roh Doyang(19909~2004) was a key figure who led the geographical academic circle in Korea after the Independence from the Japan Occupation, including serving as president of the Korean Geographical Society and made important research achievements in introducing geographical research methodology to historical research. His work in Baekje s historical geography is only three, but it is never taken lightly. All of his studies on Baekje s history were written in his 60s during his tenure at Myongji University in Seoul. His research was based on his major in historical geography at Komazawa University in Japan. Particularly his interest in Baekje s historical geography came from his activities and experiences as a teacher at Buyeo Ordinary School in Chungnam (Chungcheong South Province) for three years, as a history professor at Chungnam National University from 1952, and as a researcher at the Baekje Research Society established in 1958. Roh Doyang s studies on Baekje’s history focused on estimating place names. However, they were based on thorough reviews and criticism of various historical records, including The History of The Three Kingdoms (Samguk Sagi) and the Memorabilia of the Three Kingdom (Samguk Yusa). He also used geographical and linguistic research methods using geographical descriptions such as the Revised and Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea (Sinjeung dongguk yeoji seungnam), ancient maps, and topographical maps issued by the National Geographic Information Institute. Therefore, the research methodology on the location of Gosisan, Tanhyeon, Wangheungsa Temple Site, Juryuseong Fortress and Baekgang River has something to learn from the current perspective, and the research results are also useful.
