국문 초록

이 글은 독일을 대표하는 공영방송사가 제2차 세계대전을 독일인의 경험 으로 재현한 TV 시리즈 〈우리 어머니와 아버지들〉을 비판적 공공역사 분석의 대상으로 다룬다. 이 영화가 폴란드와 독일 공중에 일으킨 논쟁을 조명함으로써 까다로운 과거를 다룰 때 생겨나는 역사 갈등의 측면을 논한다. 첫째, 이 영화의 제작진은 역사 논의의 ‘금기 파괴’와 ‘과거를 바라보는 새로운 관점’을 내세웠으나 이는 전후 시대에 이미 나타났던 ‘피해자 관점’으 로의 회귀이다. 둘째, 이 영화는 공개 전부터 효과적인 미디어 전략으로 대 중의 수용 틀을 고정하였고, 고도의 진본성 전략으로 대중의 수용성 확보에 성공했다. 셋째, 이 영화에 대해 독일과 폴란드 공중은 자기중심적으로 반응하였고, 이는 미디어를 거치며 증폭되고 부정적으로 상호작용하였다. 마지막으로 이 영화는 역사 연구의 합의를 충실히 반영하였음에도 탈냉전 이후 새롭게 전개된 역사정치와 기억문화의 우려할만한 경향을 드러낸다. 고통스러운 과거와 기만적으로 화해하려는 소망은 비판적 역사 연구와 교육의 성과에 역행한다.

영문 초록

This study deals with the ZDF TV series Generation War (Original Title: Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter, 2013), which describes World War II as a German experience, critically analyzing it as a public historical phenomenon. This article discusses the struggle over difficult past by focusing on the public controversy in Poland and Germany aroused by the film. First, the German producer of this film claimed ‘breaking taboo’ and a ‘new perspective’ on the past, which resulted in a return to the ‘victim perspective’ in the early post-war era. Second, this film has fixed the frame of acceptance with effective media strategies before its release and was successfully accepted by the German audience with its highly developed authentication strategy. Third, both the German and Polish public reacted to this film self-centered, which was enlarged through the media and negatively interacted with each other. Finally, although this film faithfully reflects the most recent consensus of historical research, it exposes the disturbing trends in the policy of history and memory culture newly developed in post-Cold War Germany. The Wish for a deceptive reconciliation with the painful past undoes the achievements of critical historical research and education.
