국문 초록

이 논문은 한국홀리스틱융합교육학회 태동에 있어서 홀리스틱교육의 이론과 실천에 방향성을 제공한 John Miller 교수의 『전인아동교육』(Whole Child Education)의 분석 종합하여 그의 홀리스틱교육사상의 틀을 구조화하고 그의 사상의 탁월성과 우리 시대에의 시사성을 알아봄으로 우리 교육의 나아가 방향을 모색하는 것이다. 전인아동교육󰡕(Whole Child Education)은 홀리스틱교육의 내용을 7장에 걸쳐서 기술한 내용으로, Miller의 홀리스틱교육사상의 핵심 내용이 담겨있다. Miller의 교육사상의 두 축은 상호관계성을 바탕으로 한 전일성/전인성(wholeness)과 공동체(community)이다. Miller의 전인성 개념은 영성있는 인간 내외면의 조화로운 인성을 강조한다. 공동체의 경우 Martin Luther King의 사랑의 공동체(The beloved community)는 홀리스틱교육 관점에서 정의가 포함되어야 함을 강조한다. Miller의 교육철학을 바탕으로 교실공동체, 학교공동체, 지역공동체, 지구공동체 교육과정을 통해 길러야 할 21세기에 필요한 인재의 능력인 창의적 사고와 비판적 사고를 가진 인간을 길러내는 홀리스틱교육으로의 전환이 이루어져야한다.

영문 초록

This paper seeks the direction of our education by structuring the framework of Professor John Miller s Holistic Education, which provided direction to the theory and practice of holistic education in the birth of the Korean Holistic Convergence Education Association. Whole Child Education describes the contents of holistic education in seven chapters, and contains the core contents of Miller s holistic education idea. Miller s two pillars of educational thought are unity and community based on interrelationships. Miller s concept of totality emphasizes the harmonious personality inside and outside the spiritual human being. In the case of communities, Martin Luther King s The Beloved Community emphasizes that justice should be included in terms of holistic education. Based on Miller s educational philosophy, a transition to holistic education that fosters creative thinking and critical thinking, which is the ability of human resources needed in the 21st century to be fostered through classroom communities, school communities, local communities, and global community curriculum.
