국문 초록

본고는 획기적인 디지털 기술 혁명을 등에 업고 최근에 태동한 “메타버스 교회”에 대한 신학적 정위 작업과 그 적용성을 밝힘으로써 한국 교회의 위상을 세우려는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본고는 메타버스 교회의 신학적 타당성을 타진하기보다 정당성 내지 당위성에 중점을 두고 전개할 것이다. 오늘날 코로나 사태를 맞이해 ‘대면’에서 ‘비대면’으로 삶의 생태계가 바뀌는 이 시점에 메타버스 교회의 출현은 필연적인 시대적 요청으로 간주할 수 있기 때문이다. 이런 목적과 더불어 본고는 먼저 메타버스에 대한 기본 “개념” 정의를 비롯해 미래를 향한 새로운 도전이자 무한한 가능성으로서의 “현주소”를 모색해 볼 것이며, 이를 바탕으로 해서 신학적으로 접근해 볼 것인데, “공간과 존재”, “재예배화” 및 “재교회화”의 제목으로 전개될 것이다. 마지막 “결론적 제언”에서는 온라인으로 구성된 메타버스 교회와 기존 오프라인 교회의 쌍방향적인, 소위 “All-Line” 구축 시스템을 대안으로 제시해 볼 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper has a fundamental purpose to rebuild the falling status of the current Korean church. It does so by revealing the theological orientation work and its applicability to the recent advent of the “Metaverse Church” which has arrived along with the digital technological revolution. To this end, this paper will focus on the legitimacy of the Metaverse Church but will not address theological issues. This is because the emergence of the metaverse church can be regarded as an inevitable product of the times when the humanity moves from ‘face-to-face’ relationships to ‘virtual’ relationships in the aftermath of the Corona crisis. In addition to this, the paper will explore the definition of the basic “concept” of the metaverse, as well as the notion of “present address” as it constitutes but a set of new challenges and possibilities for the future. Based on this, we will approach theologically, “space and Existence”, “Re-worshiping” and “Re-churchization”. As a concluding suggestion, an interactive, so-called “All-Line” construction system between the online metaverse church and the existing offline church will be presented as an alternative.
