노동의 프레카리아트화와 민중신학

국문 초록

이 글은 전태일 사건 이후로 민중신학이 민중을 발견하는 주된 장소로 기능해온 노동문제에 관한 민중신학의 현재적 개입을 시도한다. 이를 위해 오늘날 자본주의적 노동사회가 처한 위기의 요체를 프레카리아트라 불리는 새로운 계급의 출현과 더불어 노동의 다중적 불안정성을 중심으로 사회가 구조화되는 경향이 나타나는 노동의 프레카리아트화 현상으로 규정한다. 그리고 이러한 노동의 프레카리아트화가 민중신학적 관점에서 우리 시대 민중의 발견 장소, 즉 ‘민중문제’라는 사실을 논증하는 것을 목표로 한다. 서론에서 연구의 배경과 문제의식을 소개하고, 이어서 Ⅱ장에서는 노동문제가 민중신학에서 어떻게 주요한 민중문제로 자리 잡고 있는지를 대표적인 1세대 민중신학자들인 안병무와 서남동의 저서들을 통해 살펴본다. 민중신학자들이 노동문제를 민중의 주된 발견 장소로 파악해왔다는 사실은 세 가지 근거를 통해 입증된다. 첫째, 민중신학이 탄생하게 된 실천적 계기가 다름 아닌 전태일 사건이라는 점이다. 특히 안병무에게서 전태일 사건의 역사적·신학적 중요성에 대한 이해는 1960~70년대 한국발전국가 체제 하에서의 역사적으로 특수한 민중문제였던 노동문제에 대한 첨예한 인식을 중심으로 이루어진다. 둘째, 서남동의 민중신학에서 전태일 사건에 대한 경험으로 촉발된 노동문제에 대한 사회사적·물질주의적 해석 지향성에 의해, 사회적 총체성으로서의 노동이 두 이야기의 합류와 계시의 하부구조를 매개하는 기능을 수행한다는 점이다. 셋째, 오클로스의 범주에 그 노동의 구체적인 성격으로 인해 정결규례를 위반할 수밖에 없었던 직업적 죄인들을 포함시킴으로써, 안병무의 오클로스/ 민중론은 노동이 포섭과 배제의 기준으로 작동하는 사회적 과정에 개입할 수 있는 근거를 제공한다는 점이다. 민중신학의 전통에서 이루어진 노동문제에 대한 해석에 기초하여, Ⅲ장에서는 프레카리아트 개념에 대한 상세한 분석을 통해 노동의 프레카리아트화가 현시대 자본주의적 노동사회의 변형 및 재구성의 핵심 동역학이라는 논점을 도출한다. 특히 우리 시대의 민중문제로서 노동의 프레카리아트화 현상이 초래하고 있는 두 가지 형태의 구조적 모순과 노동담지자들에게 초래하고 있는 생동적 위기를 잉여성의 개념을 중심으로 제시한다. 결론적으로 프레카리아트적 노동사회의 문제로서 잉여성의 생산이 또한 윤리적 의미에서 인간성에 대한 범죄로 볼 수 있는 이상 그것은 민중신학이 전태일 사건 이후로 일관되게 민중을 발견하는 주된 장소로 파악해온 민중문제에 해당한다는 점을 주장한다.

영문 초록

This article attempts an analysis of of Minjung theology in terms of labour problems, the place where Minjung theology has discovered the Minjung since the self-immolation of Jeon Tae-il. To this end, the essence of the crisis faced by today’s capitalist labour society is defined as the precariatisation of labour in which society tends to be structured around the multiple insecurity of labour along with the emergence of a new class called the Precariat. And it aims to argue that this precariatisation of labour is the place where we discover the Minjung today, that is, in the Minjung problems from the perspective of Minjung theology. In the introduction, the background and the crux of the study are introduced. In the second part, the approach of the first generation of Minjung theologians, namely Ahn Byung-mu and Suh Nam-dong, is examined to see how labour problems became the major problem in the Minjung theology. The fact that Minjung theologians have identified labour problems as the location of the Minjung is proved on three grounds. First, the turning point for the rise of Minjung theology is the self-immolation of Jeon Tae-il. In particular, the understanding of the historical and theological importance of the Jeon Tae-Il event in Ahn Byung-mu’s thought is considered. The context for Ahn’s theology was the crisis in working conditions for labourers under the developmental state regime in the 1960s and 1970s. Second, we look at Suh Nam-dong’s thought and how the confluence of two stories and the infrastructure of revelation by the sociohistorical and materialistic interpretation triggered by the experience of Jeon Tae-Il event sparked his Minjung theology. Third, by introducing the idea of professional sinners, those who were forced to violate the Purity Law due to the specific nature of their own jobs, as a part of the idea of the Ochlos, Ahn Byung-mu provides the basis to intervene in the social process where labour operates as a criterion for inclusion and exclusion. In the third part of the paper, it is argued that precariatisation of labour is the central dynamic of contemporary capitalist labour society. This position in based on the interpretation of labour problems in the tradition of Minjung theology and a detailed analysis of the concept of the precariat. In conclusion, it is argued that the production of superfluity should be considered a crime against humanity in an ethical sense and that this position is an appropriate response to the problems of the Minjung, the central concern of Minjung theology since the Jeon Tae-Il event.
