의미 만들기로서의 미술창작을 위한 글쓰기의 역할

국문 초록

본 연구는 글쓰기를 활용한 미술창작 교육을 한국 교육 현장에서 실시할 경우 기대할 수 있는 교육적 효과, 그리고 이러한 교육적 접근으로 인해 발생할 수 있는 잠재적 문제점을 영국의 사례를 중심으로 다루었다. 영국 중고등학교 학생들을 대상으로 한 대표적인 평가 제도인 GCSE 와 A-level 평가 규정에는 미술 교과의 평가 항목으로 학생의 ‘글’이 주석 또는 에세이의 형태로 포트폴리오에 포함되어야 한다는 사실이 명시되어 있다. 이러한 평가 제도를 뒷받침하는 연구 결과들과 대조적으로, 영국교육 현장에서는 현행 평가 방식 및 지원의 미흡함으로 인해 교사들과 학생들의 교수학습 부담이 야기 되고 있다. 따라서 ‘글쓰기’를 활용한 미술창작 교육이 한국 미술교육 현장에 효과적으로 적용되기 위해서는 한국 교사들의 인식에 대한 사전 조사와 이를 기반으로 한 교사 교육 및 한국 교육 현장에 적합한 평가 기준을 마련해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

In this study, I discussed the educational effects of art creation activities using writing by focusing on the British art assessment policy and practice. First, I addressed how writing is required as a mandatory assessment element of art and design subjects under the GCSE and A-level evaluation regulations, which are the representative evaluation systems for secondary school students in the UK. Then, I presented several studies supporting these educational attempts. I also investigated the various problems at British secondary schools, such as the burden the assessment system places on both teachers and students. Finally, based on the example of the UK, I examined what preparations are needed to maximize the positive effects of ‘utilising writing for art making’, such as promoting learner-centred education and process-based assessment, in South Korea. As a result, I concluded that appropriate teacher training and evaluation guidelines should be provided to Korean teachers, with consideration given to teachers’ perceptions of the ‘relationship between writing and art creation activities’, and sufficient discussions should be conducted before adopting the writing-based approach.
