麟齋 李種學의 유배시에 나타난 意境과 미적 특질

국문 초록

인재 이종학은 고려말엽의 혼란했던 정치 상황 속에서 파란만장한 삶을 살았다. 그는 당대의 대학자이자 정치가인 목은 이색의 아들로 태어났으나, 우왕 사후 창왕과 공양왕조에서 목은이 김저 사건과 윤이․이초 사건으로 곤경을 당하자 부친과 마찬가지로 정치적 박해를 받아야만 했다. 또한 그는 포은 정몽주가 선죽교에서 죽임을 당하고 고려 왕조가 기울어 가자 순군옥에 투옥되고 함창에 유배되는 등 시련을 겪으면서 결국 移配 도중 교살당하게 되었다. 고려말엽의 문학사에서 그는 항상 소외당하여 왔다. 이종학이라는 본인의 이름보다는 평생을 목은의 아들로 일컬어졌고, 또 포은의 충절에 가려져 이종학의 충성과 절개는 그동안 주목받지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 그가 남긴 상당한 분량의 유배시들은 그 뛰어난 문학성에도 불구하고 그간의 한시사에서 언급되지 않거나 혹 언급은 되더라도 비중있게 다뤄지지 않았다. 하지만 한국 유배시의 사적 흐름에서 그의 시는 초기에 등장했던 가장 중요한 작품들 중의 하나로 생각된다. 그의 문집 『麟齋遺稿』에 남겨진 113제 123수의 시는 그같은 비극적 삶의 결과물이다. 그의 유배시는 전라도 平陽[順天]과 충청도 常山[鎭川]에서 유배를 당했을 때 지은 시로 구성되어 있는데, 시의 격조는 전반적으로 유배지에서의 쓸쓸함과 고독, 유배인으로서의 좌절과 비개감을 드러낸 것이 주를 이루고, 기타 자연에 대한 동경과 은일적 삶의 추구, 사대부로서 갖는 경세제민의 포부 등으로 구분할 수 있다. 본고에서는 이중에서도 특히 유배지에서의 쓸쓸하고 고독한 심경과 관직에 대한 미련 및 그에 따른 좌절감을 다룬 시들에 주목하고자 한다. 필자는 이종학의 유배시의 詩品을 悽惋으로 규정하고 그 미감을 고찰해 보았다. 특별히 유배시, 그중에서도 悽惋의 미에 주목했던 것은 『麟齋遺稿』를 구성하고 있는 시들이 대체로 유배시라는 이유도 있지만, 그 유배시야말로 이종학의 시인으로서의 자질과 면모를 유감없이 보여주고 있다고 생각하기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Injae(麟齋)-Lee, Jong-Hak(李種學) lived a life of extreme ups and downs in the troubled state of politics in the latter part of the Goryeo Dynasty. He was the son of Mokeun-Lee, Saek. When his father, Mokeun came to be persecuted by the authorities for the Kim Jeo affair and the Yun Ee & Lee Cho affair, so was Injae. After Jeong Mongju was killed on Seonjuk bridge and Goryo Dynasty was on the wane, he had been through a terrible ordeal, such as confinement and exile. At last he was strangled to death proceeding to his new place of exile. Injae always was ostracized in the history of literature in the late Goryo dynasty. He was called as Mokeun s son rather than Lee Jong Hak, his own name. His loyalty to Goryo Dynasty also hasn t attracted attention, because Poeun is more famous as an ardent patriot in Goryo Dynasty. Injae left behind many works which were excellent in literary value, but they haven t been highlighted in the history of sino-korean poetry. I think that Injae s poetry is one of the most important works in the history of sino-korean poetry, which illustrated of exile life. His 123poems in the collection of works, featured his own tragic exile life in Suncheon and Jincheon. The characteristic of Injae s poems is a major dignity of poetical style, which insists of loneliness and solitude in a place of exile. In his poetry, there are other motives–frustration and sorrow that are felt in a place of exile, the love of nature, a yearning for a life in seclusion, political aspirations, and a praise for a scenic attraction in the Gwandong district as well. In this manuscript, I especially focused on Injae’s poems that express emotions and feelings when he was in exile. I would like to referred to the dignity of Injae s poetry as Cheowan (悽惋)․Bigae(悲慨). is mostly made up of poems that were written in a place of exile. These are the very poems that show Injae’s quality as excellent poet.
