한문교육용 기초한자의 대표훈 선정원칙 및 세칙에 대한 제언

국문 초록

본고는 국가 수준의 대표훈 선정이 필요하다는 점을 전제하고 대표훈에 대한 선행연구에서 제기한 문제점의 합리성을 검토하고 우리의 한문교육 환경과 현실에 합당한 대표훈의 선정원칙과 세칙을 제시해 보았다. 한문교육용 기초한자는 선정 당시 訓에 대한 규정이 없이 음만을 공표한 까닭으로 한문교육 현장에서 혼란이 가중되자 학습자의 혼란을 줄이고 전통적인 한자교육 방법을 지켜나간다는 목적에서 어문회가 주관하여 대표훈을 선정, 발표하였다. 그러나 선정 의도와는 달리 선정의 적합성 문제 등 여러 문제가 제기되고 지금까지 논의가 지속되었다. 한문교과의 교육 목표 달성과 한문교육의 효율성을 높이기 위하여 선행연구를 통해 제기된 문제점과 개선방안을 살펴보고 대표훈의 선정원칙과 세칙을 마련해 보고자 한다. 결론적으로 대표훈 선정에 있어 교육한자를 대상으로 교육한자의 교육적인 기능을 효율화하고, 한자학적 입장에서 보편적이고 실용적인 훈을 제시함을 원칙으로 하고 이를 근거로 다음과 같은 주요 세칙안을 제시하였다. ① 一字一訓을 기본 원칙으로 하고, 복수훈이 부득이한 경우 괄호 안에 병기한다. ② 本義를 원칙으로 하며, 다만 본의가 분명하지 않을 때는 引伸義, 假借義 순으로 한다. ③ 고유어를 존중하나 부득이한 경우 한자어 음을 이용한다. ④ 용언(동사, 형용사)의 경우 기본형을 원칙으로 한다. ⑤ 허사의 훈은 어조사로 통일함을 원칙으로 한다.

영문 초록

The present study examined the rationality of the issues raised in connection with the precedent studies on the standard meaning of Chinese characters and, under the assumption that it would be necessary to select the standard meaning for each Chinese character on the national dimension, proposed the criteria and detailed rules in selecting the standard meanings which could satisfy the actual needs of our Chinese letter education under the current environments. Confusion was added to the Chinese language education when 1,800 basic Chinese characters were first announced to have been selected for use in Chinese language education because pronunciations for Chinese characters alone were presented without regulations concerning their meanings suggested for teaching Chinese characters at that time. Therefore, in order to reduce the confusion of the learners and to sustain the traditional Chinese character education method, standard meanings for Chinese characters were selected and proclaimed under the initiative of the Foundation for Korean Language Studies. Despite such efforts, various issues including but not limited to suitability of the selection are still lingering unsolved and the discussions have since continued. This is why attempts were made in this paper to review the problems posed by previous researches with an aim to achieve the educational objectives of the curriculum for Chinese letter education and improve efficiency of Chinese language education. In conclusion, major rules for selecting standard meaning of Chinese characters for educational purpose are proposed as follows, by taking into account the principle that educational function shall have priority in selecting Chinese characters for educational purpose and universal as well as practical meanings shall be selected from the prospective of Chinese scholars: ① in principle, one meaning should be given to one word and, if needed inevitably, additional meanings may be added in parentheses; ② original meaning should be regarded as standard and, if original meaning is not clear, derivative meaning and borrowed meaning may be used in order; ③ priority should be given to original meaning but, if found necessary, Chinese pronunciation may be used; ④ in principle, root words should be applicable in case of predicates (verbs, adjectives); and ⑤ the meaning of meaningless words in classical Chinese should be in principle construed as particle uniformly.
