구봉 송익필의 리기묘합적 사유

국문 초록

한국유가철학연구에 있어서 가장 큰 문제 중 하나는 방법론적 문제인데, 이는 어떻게 한국유가의 철학적 사유를 탐구할 것인가에 달려 있다. 지금까지 조선유가의 철학적 사유에 관한 연구는 방법론적으로 다카하시 도오루의 퇴계와 율곡을 중심으로 한 主理·主氣라는 배타적인 이원적 사유나 중국 신유학(주자학)의 발생론적인 태극(리) 일원적 사유의 틀을 암묵적으로 의존해 왔다. 물론 다카하시 연구가 학파와 당쟁을 연계시키는 정치적 당파성에 입각한 연구라는 점과 그 연구가 근대서양철학의 실체론적 사고라는 사상적 배경을 가지고 있다는 한계점에 대해서는 해명되었다. 그러나 이러한 연구는 다카하시 연구의 학문적 경향이나 태도를 비판 한 것이지, 조선유가철학의 철학적 사유나 그 연구 방법에 대한 연구는 아니었다. 이러한 문제의식에서 본 논문은 구봉 송익필의 理氣妙合的 思惟와 그 구조 및 전개를 탐구한다. 탐구과정에서 구봉은 퇴계와 율곡과 마찬가지로 중국 주자학의 태극 일원론적 사유 방식을 지양하는 리기묘합적 사유를 공유하고 있음을 논증한다. 그리고 구봉은 퇴율과 다르게 자신만의 독창적인 리기묘합적 사유를 전개하는데 그 학파와 당파에 있어서 율곡의 기호학파에 가깝지만, 퇴계의 리기묘합적 사유에 나타나는 리의 수사학적 능동성을 강조하는 철학적 사유와 부합하고 있음을 논구한다. 구봉의 리기묘합적 시유와 그 구조 및 전개 과정을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 구봉은 리기묘합적 사유의 존재론적 차원과 우주론적 차원을 ‘理在氣中’의 구조 아래 각각 ‘太極含動靜’과 ‘太極有動靜’으로 전개하고, ‘理在氣中’에 정합한 심성론의 ‘性在心中’ 구조에서 四端七情을 논한다.

영문 초록

One of the biggest problems in the study of Korean-Confucian philosophy is on the methodology, how to explore its thought. The previous researches on the philosophical thought of Korean-Confucianism have implicitly relied on the exclusive and dualistic framework that Takahashi Toru(高橋亨) is classified in terms of Ju-Li(主理) and Ju-Gi(主氣), and on the Chinese Neo-Confucianim’s generative thought of Taegeuk(太極)-Monism. Of course, the limitations that Takahashi’s research is based on the political section linking school and faction and that it has an ideological background with modern Western philosophy’s substantial thought, are explained. However, these studies criticized Takahashi’ academic trends or attitudes, not the philosophical thought and research method of Korean-Confucian philosophy. On this problematic this paper explores Gubong s thought of Li-Gi-Myohap(理氣妙合), its structure and development. In the process of exploration it shows Gubong as like Toegye and Yulgok shares the thought of Li-Gi-Myohap for avoiding the Chinese thought of Taegeuk-Monism; and, that unlike Toegye and Yulgok, he develops his own original thought of Li-Gi-Myohap, which is closely related to Yulgok’s school and faction but conformed to Toegye’s philosophical thought that puts an emphasis on Li s activity in rhetoric. The summary of Gubong s thought of Li-Gi-Myohap, its structure, and the process of its development are as follows. Gubong develops the ontological and cosmological dimensions of the Li-Gi-Myohap thought into Taegeuk-Ham-Dong·Jeong(太極含動靜) and Taegeuk-Yu-Dong·Jeong(太極有動靜) respectively in the structure of Li-jae-Gijung(理在氣中) , and delivers a discourse on the theory of Sadan-Chiljeong(四端·七情) in the structure of Seung-jae-Simjung(性在心中).
