대중 서사물에 나타난 여성 역사인물의 재창조 양상과 의의

국문 초록

이 연구는 한국 고소설 <도앵행>과 중국 드라마 <수려강산지장가행>에 등장하는 후한 광무제의 여동생인 영평공주 유백희를 중심으로 대중 서사물에 나타난 여성 역사인물의 재창조 양상과 의의를 살피고자 한 것이다. 본고에서는 먼저 󰡔후한서󰡕를 통해 재구한 유백희의 역사적 발자취와 두 작품에 나타난 유백희의 행적을 비교･검토하였다. 그 결과, <도앵행>에서 유백희의 행적은 역사와 무관하였으며 <수려강산지장가행>에서는 역사적 개연성을 수반하는 가운데 허구화되어 있어, 전자가 광무제 시대를 단순 배경으로 수용하였다면 후자는 역사와 서사가 긴밀하게 관련되어 있음을 확인하였다. 더불어 본고는 시대와 국적을 달리하는 두 작품의 산출 배경을 검토함으로써, 역사를 소재로 한 대중 서사물의 산출에 ‘역사 지식의 대중화’와 ‘상업성과 문화적 유연성이 담보되는 사회적 분위기 형성’이 주요한 영향을 미치고 있음을 밝혔다. 한편, 본고에서는 두 작품에 나타난 유백희의 인물형상과 서사적 역할을 비교･검토하였다. 인물형상을 비교한 결과, 유백희는 <도앵행>에서는 ‘부덕의 화신’으로 형상화된 데 비해, <수려강산지장가행>에서는 ‘철부지 막내딸’로 그려져 있었는데, 이러한 인물형상에는 배경 당대가 아닌 조선 후기 및 현대 중국사회에서 지향하거나 흔히 찾아볼 수 있는 여성들의 모습이 투영되어 있었다. 또한 서사적 역할의 측면에서 <도앵행>의 유백희는 당대의 이상적인 여성상을 제시하는 가운데 또 다른 중심인물인 ‘주당’의 성격을 부각하고 있었으며, <수려강산지장가행>에서는 극의 긴장감과 재미를 제고하는 한편 주인공인 ‘음려화’의 뛰어난 성품과 자질을 드러내는 역할을 담당하고 있었다. 본고는 지금까지의 내용을 바탕으로 대중 서사물에서 여성 역사인물의 재창조가 갖는 의의를 정리하는 것으로 논의를 갈무리했다. 본고를 통해 대중 서사물에 나타난 역사인물의 수용방식과 여성 역사인물의 재창조에 대한 학문적 관심이 제고되기를 희망한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the re-creation and significance of female historical figures in popular narratives, focusing on Yu Baek-hee, the younger sister of the later Han Dynasty Gwangmuje, who appears in the Korean old novel ‘Doenghaeng’ and the Chinese TV drama ‘秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)’. In this paper, we first compared and reviewed the historical footsteps of Yu Baek-hee, which was reconstructed through ‘Houhanshu’, and Yu Baek-hee s deeds in the two works. As a result, Yu Baek-hee s deeds in ‘Doanghaeng’ were unrelated to history and were fictionalized while accompanied by historical probability in ‘秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)’, confirming that the first was accepted the Gwangmuje era as a simple background and the second was closely related to history and narrative. In addition, by reviewing the production background of the two works of different times and nationalities, this paper discussed that ‘the popularization of historical knowledge’ and ‘the formation of a social atmosphere that guarantees commercial and cultural flexibility’ have a major impact on the production of historical narratives. On the other hand, in this paper, Yu Baek-hee s character shape and narrative role in the two works were compared and reviewed. As a result of comparing the figures, Yu Baek-hee was depicted as ‘a virtuous woman’ in ‘Doenghaeng’, while ‘The immature youngest daughter’ was depicted in ‘秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)’, reflecting the images of women aimed at or commonly found in the late Joseon Dynasty and modern Chinese society. In addition, in terms of its narrative role, Yu Baek-hee of ‘Doenghaeng’ presented the ideal female image of the time and emphasized the character of ‘Joodang,’ another central figure, and in ‘秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)’, she played a role in enhancing the tension and fun of the play while revealing the main character ‘Um Yeo-hwa’ s qualities as the main character. Based on the contents so far, this paper concluded the discussion by summarizing the significance of the re-creation of female historical characters in popular narratives. Through this paper, we hope that academic interest in the acceptance of historical characters and the re-creation of female historical characters will be enhanced.
