식민지 지식인의 신여성 담론

국문 초록

『(명원)신여자보감』(1922)은 1920년대 사회적 세력으로 자리 잡은 신여자를 대상으로 김원근이 생각하는 신여자 상(像) 을 제시하고 있다. 본고는 『신여자보감』을 『신여자보감』으로 규정하고 신여성 담론을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 김원근(1870~1920)은 공론의 장에 지속적으로 글을 발표한 기독교 개화파 지식인으로 민족주의적 색채가 짙은 교사이자 한학자였다. 『신여자보감』에는 열녀 효녀 현모의 형상이 존재하지만 전근대와 근대의 경계에서 가부장 이데올로기에 균열을 보이는 여성 인물 형상에서 그 독자적인 특징이 잘 드러난다. 이에 자기 주도적·적극적 여성가부장제에 도전·권리 추구하는 여성 지식의 습득과 실천하는 여성으로 인물 유형을 나누어 살펴보았다. 이 밖에 근대적 젠더규범을 실행한 인물에 대해 살펴보았다. 김원근은 전근대 여성 인물을 대상으로 그들의 사고와 행위에서 근대적 요소를 찾아 신여자의 모범적인 선례로 제시하고자 하였다. 『신여자보감』은 여성 교육서 뿐만 아니라 여성 역사서로서 여성 역사에 대한 관심을 고조시키는데 기여했다 이는 『신여자보감』이 남성을 독자층으로 포섭했음을 의미하고 남성 독자층을 포용할 수 있었던 것은 민족적 지배담론의 자장 안에 있었기 때문에 가능했다 김원근은 신여자가 갖추어야 할 자질로 애국심의 고취와 민족 정신의 자각과 실천을 무엇보다 중요시했던 것으로 보인다. 『신여자보감』은 1920년대 식민지에서 여성주체의 형성에 기여하였다. 우리나라 역사적 배경을 토대로 신여성 담론을 형성한 『신여자보감』을 통해 신여성 담론의 조선적 특수성을 규명할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Shin yeo ja bo gam (1922) presents the image of a new woman that Kim Won-geun thinks of the ‘new woman’ who established itself as a social force in the 1920s. This paper defined 『Shin yeo ja bo gam』 as 『Shin yeo ja(New Woman)/bo gam』 and focused on the discourse of new women. Kim Won-geun (1870-1944) was a Christian enlightened intellectual who continued to publish articles in the public debate, and was a teacher and scholar of Chinese literature with a strong nationalistic color. In Shin yeo ja bo gam, the figures of a faithful woman, a filial daughter, and a wise mother exist, but their unique characteristics are well revealed through the female figure who shows a crack in the patriarchal ideology at the boundary between the pre-modern and the modern. These aspects were examined by dividing the character types into self-directed active women, women who challenge the patriarchal system and pursue rights, and women who acquire and practice knowledge. addition, we looked at people who practiced modern gender norms. Kim Won-geun sought to present the modern element in the pre-modern women s behavior as an exemplary precedent for the new woman . Shin yeo ja bo gam has contributed to heightening interest in women s history as a women s history book as well as a women s education book. This means that Shin yeo ja bo gam has embraced men as its readership, and it was possible because it was within the field of national dominant discourse that it was able to embrace the male readership. It seems that Kim Won-geun placed great importance on the promotion of patriotism and awareness and practice of national spirit as the qualities that a new woman should possess. Shin yeo ja bo gam contributed to the formation process of female subjects in the colonies in the 1920s. Through Shin yeo ja bo gam, which formed a discourse on new women based on the historical background of Korea, the Choseon-style specificity of the discourse on new women can be identified.
