『열하일기』<옥갑야화> 수록 허생후지 연구

국문 초록

박종채가 『연암집』을 편찬하기 위해 필사한 『연암집초고보유(9)』에는 연암이 지은 <서허생사후>가 수록되어 있다. 이 글은 옥류산장본 『열하일기』의 <진덕재야화>에 수록된 연암후지를 옮겨놓은 것이다. 그런데 연암은 이 허생후지를 행계집 에 옮겨쓰면서 <진덕재야화>의 제목을 <옥갑야화>로 바꾸고 내용 또한 다른 것으로 교체하였다. 이어 그는 『잡록(하)』,『열하일기(정)』에서 <옥갑야화>의 제목을 <옥갑야어>로 바꾸고 이곳에 교체한 허생후지를 수록하였다. 현재 박영철본 열하일기 의 <옥갑야화>에는 위와 같이 연암이 교체한 허생후지가 수록되어 있다. 연암은 <진덕재야화>에 쓴 허생후지에는 다음 세 가지 문제가 있다고 생각하였다. 첫째, 허생의 이야기를 의로운 행동을 하였거나 나라에 공을 세운 염시도, 배시황, 완흥군 부인 등과 함께 언급하여, 허생이 의로운 인물이라고 이해할 수 있는 여지를 남긴 것이다. 둘째, 윤영에게서 허생의 이야기를 듣고 ‘詭奇怪譎’하다고 말하거나 허생의 처세에 대해 ‘玩世不恭’하다고 말하여, 사람들이 연암 문장을 비판하는 증거로 삼을 수 있게 한 것이다. 셋째, 허생 이야기를 들려준 윤영이 폐족이거나 좌도 이단으로 세상에서 도피한 사람이라고 말하여, 연암이 불순한 무리와 어울린다는 빌미를 제공한 것이다. 연암이 <옥갑야화>에 다시 쓴 허생후지는 글의 구성이나 주제의 표현에 있어서 다음 세 가지 내용이 주목해볼 만하다. 첫째, 이 글의 첫 부분을 ‘或曰’이라고 써서 <옥갑야화>를 구성하고 있는 일곱 가지 일화에서 다른 일화의 하나를 추가하여, <허생전>의 주제를 보다 명확하게 드러낸 것이다. 둘째, 이 글의 주인공인 조계원의 역할이 비판하는 인물에서 비판을 당하는 인물로 전환하여, 북벌론의 허구성을 보다 선명하게 드러낸 것이다. 셋째, 주인공인 조계원이 망한 명나라의 장수로 설정된 승려들에게 조롱당하는 장면을 묘사하여, 당시 국제 정세에 등한했던 북벌론자들의 무능력과 무지함을 드러낸 것이다. 본 연구는 위와 같이 열하일기 이본들에서 <진덕재야화>와 <옥갑야화>에 각각 다른 내용으로 쓰여있는 허생후지를 대상으로, 연암이 <진덕재야화>에 수록된 허생후지를 교체한 이유와 함께 <옥갑야화>에 수록된 허생후지에서 보여준 주제의식을 규명했다는 점에서 열하일기 의 이본이나 <허생전>을 연구하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.

영문 초록

In the Yeonamgipchogoboyou(9)燕巖集草稿補遺(9) written by Park Jongchae to compile Yeonamgip燕巖集, he wrote “Seoheosaengsafu書許生事後” written by Yeonam燕巖. This text is a transcription of Heosaengfuji 許生後識, which was included in the “Jindeokjaeyahwa進德齋夜話” in the Okryusangangbon玉溜山莊本 Yeolhailgi熱河日記. But Yeonam changed the name of “JindeokjaeYahwa” to “Okgapyahwa玉甲夜話” while transferring Heosaengfuji to Haenggyejip杏溪集. He then changed the title of “Okgabyahwa” from Japrok(ha)雜錄(下 ) and Yeolhailgi(Jung)熱河日記(貞 ) to “Okgabyaeo玉甲野語.” Currently, the “Okgapyahwa” of Park Yeong-cheol朴榮喆 s Yeolhailgi contains Heosaengfuji replaced by Yeonam. This article is currently included in the “Okgabyaeo” of the Yeolhailgi by Park Young-chul. I thought there were three problems with the contents of “Heosaengfuji”, which was written in “Jindeokjaeyahwa” in Yeonam. First, Yeonam, the Yeom Si-do廉時道･Bae Si-hwang裵是晃･The wife of Wanheunggun完興君, etc. who made a righteous act of Heosaeng s story or made a contribution to the nation, and This leaves room for people to understand that Heosaeng was also a righteous figure. Second, after hearing Heosaeng s story from Yun Yeong尹暎, he said ‘ulcerated ulcer , and He said he was ’Irreverence by casting upon the world’ about the situation of Heoaeng. This allowed people to use it as evidence to criticize the Yeonam sentence at the time. Third, Yeonam said that Yun Yeong, who told the story of Heosaeng, was either a closed family or a left-handed heretic who fled the world. This explains to those who watched Yeonam s behavior at the time, such as Honggukyeong, that he was associated with an impure group. “Heosaengfuji”, which Yeonam rewrote, deserves attention to the following three contents in the composition of the article and the expression of the subject matter. First, the first part of this article starts with a letter ‘Some say或曰’, In addition to the seven anecdotes that make up the “Okgapyahwa”, The theme of “Heresaengjeon許生傳” is more clearly revealed. Second, the role of Jo Gye-won趙啟遠, the main character of this article, was changed from a criticized person to a criticized person, The fictional nature of the Northern Expeditions has been revealed more clearly. Third, the main character, Jo Gye-won, was ridiculed by monks who were set up to be masters of the Ming Dynasty, It revealed the incompetence and ignorance of Northern Expeditions activists who were neglected by the international situation at that time. As such, this study was conducted on Heosaengfuji, the only two species left in Yeolhailgi. And the reason why Yeonam replaced Heosaengfuji, which was included in the “Jindeokjaeyahwa”, was identified. In addition, the theme consciousness of Heosaengfuji s correctional process included in the “Okgapyahwa”. In this regard, I think this study will help to study a different version of the Yeolhailgi or “Heresaengjeon”.
