국문 초록

코로나19를 통해 드러난 타자에 대한 배제와 혐오의 문제는 국내외적으로 심각한 사회 문제가 되고 있다. 그것은 북미에서는 아시안 혐오의 형태로 나타났고, 국내에서는 중국인 혐오, 신천지 혐오, 동성애자 혐오로 나타났다. 본 논문은 코로나19 시대 등장한 혐오를 극복하기 위한기독교 윤리를 모색한다. 본문은 크게 세 부분으로 이루어져 있다. 우선 코로나19를 둘러싼 혐오의 현상학을 살필 것이다. 코로나19 이후 미국과 한국에서 등장하는 혐오 현상들에 대한 분석을 한 후에 무엇이 그것을 가능하게 했는지에대한 논의를 전개한다. 본론의 두 번째와 세 번째 장에서는 타자의 윤리학을 대표하는 유대계 철학자 레비나스와 기독교 신학자 본회퍼를 초대한다. 그들을 통해 코로나19와 더불어 도래한 혐오의 시대를 거슬러 올라가는 타자의 윤리에 대한 지혜를 도모하고자 한다. 이를 바탕으로 기독교 윤리의 관점에서 “코로나19 시대 타자의 윤리”를 정초하는 하는 내용이 결론부에서 펼쳐질 것이다. 코로나19는 백신이 보급되면서 점차 수그러질 수 있겠으나, 이와 유사한 인수 감염병(zoonoses)은 앞으로도 계속 주기적으로 반복하여 등장하면서 인류를 위협할 것이다. 그때마다 감염병의 창궐로 인한 사회적 혼란을 상쇄시키고자 누군가를 희생시키는 혐오의 정치학이 등장할 것이고, 그때마다 공동체는 갈등과 아픔을 경험할 확률이 높다. 본 논문에서 말하는 ‘타인의 윤리학’이 우리 사회가 비상사태의 상황에 빠졌을 때 타자에 대한 관심과 배려의 시각을 제공하고, 사회적 약자와 타자에 대한 무비판적 혐오와 폭력 앞에서 우리에게 성찰의 기회를 제공하는 계기가 되었으면 하는 마음이 간절하다.

영문 초록

The issue of exclusion and hatred of others revealed through COVID-19 is becoming a serious social problem at home and abroad. Disgust has been expressed in North America at the abomination of Asian hatred, and in Korea as hatred of Chinese, a loathing of Sincheonji (one of the heresies of Protestant sects) and homosexual hatred. This paper seeks a Christian ethics to overcome the hatred that has emerged during the COVID-19 era. This article consists of three main parts. First of all, we will look at the phenomenology of hatred surrounding COVID-19. After analyzing the hate phenomena emerging in the U.S. and South Korea after COVID-19, we discuss what made it possible. In the second and third sections of the paper, we investigate the insights of the Jewish philosopher Levinas, who represents the ethics of others, and of the Christian theologian Bonhoeffer. Through them, we seek to promote wisdom about the ethics of others, dating back to the age of hatred that came with COVID-19. Based on this research, we conclude that the “ethics of others in the era of COVID-19” are based on Christian ethics. While COVID-19 may gradually abate as vaccines become available, similar cases of zoonoses will continue to emerge repeatedly in the future, threatening humanity. Each time, there will be a political science of hatred that sacrifices someone to offset the social chaos caused by the outbreak of infectious diseases, and each time, the community is likely to experience conflict and pain. We sincerely hope that the “ethics of the Other” in this paper will provide a view of interest and consideration for others when our society is in an emergency situation, and provide us with opportunities for reflection in the face of uncritical hatred and violence against the socially disadvantaged.
