연구방법론을 중심으로 한 기독교교육 연구 분석 및 대안 모색

국문 초록

연구의 목적은 연구방법론을 중심으로 기독교교육 연구 동향을 분석하고 대안적 패러다임을 제시하는데 있다. 따라서 이론과 실천의 관계를 중심으로 기독교교육 연구 분석에 관한 선행 연구를 검토한 결과, 연구문제의 비실제성, 연구유형의 불균형성, 그리고 연구자료의 탈맥락성에 대한 논의로 나타났다. 이는 연구방법론의 문제로 볼 수 있으므로, 최근 5년간 한국기독교교육학회 및 한국기독교교육정보학회에서 출판한 논문(306편)을 연구유형별로 분류한 후, 자료수집의 일차성 및 포괄성, 자료분석의 관련성 및 구체성 정도를 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 연구유형은 문헌연구가 80% 이상으로 나타났다. 자료수집에서는 실험연구가 교육현장에 관한 다양한 일차 자료를 가장 많이 포함하고, 문헌연구가 가장 적게 포함하는 것으로 나타났다. 자료분석에서는 실험연구와 개발연구가 교육 현장의 문제에 가장 직접적이고 구체적인 전략 및 해결책을 제시하고, 문헌연구의 경우엔 교육현장과 직접적인 관련이 다소 적은 거시적 방향이나 시사점을 제시하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구유형 자체가 이론과 실천의 단절을 가속화시키는 결정적 요인은 아니라 하더라도, 연구의 교육적 실효성을 제고하기 위해선 문헌연구에 대한 편향성을 의식적으로 자각할 필요가 있다. 그러나 연구유형 자체가 실천지향적 기독교교육을 담보하지는 않기 때문에 어떤 연구유형을 선택하느냐 하는 문제보다 더 중요한 것은 연구목적과 연구유형에 적절한 자료수집 및 분석 과정을 포함하는 것이다. 따라서 후속 연구로 연구유형에 따라 적절한 연구방법 및 절차를 포함하고 있는지를 점검할 수 있는 지표 개발을 제안할 수 있다. 이러한 시사점을 토대로 기독교교육 연구의 대안적 패러다임으로 설계기반연구(Design-based research)를 제시하였다. 설계기반연구는 연구의 실천적 효과성에 대한 문제의식에서 출발하여, 연구 참여자 및 교육 실천가의 피드백을 연구 및 설계에 반영하는 반복적이며 참여적인 연구다. 연구방법에 대한 이해를 돕기 위해 2008년부터 2009년까지 P대학교 <교육방법 및 교육공학> 수업 시 적용하였던 협력 스크립트 개발 사례를 제시하였다. 이 연구는 기독교교육 연구의 실천적 효과성 및 책임성 제고를 위해 대안적 연구 패러다임을 제시하고, 학습 환경 설계를 과학적 처방이 아닌 다양한 연구 참여자들과의 대화를 통해 완성해가는 예술적 행위로 인식했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze research trend and propose an alternative paradigm for Christian education with a focus on research methodology. Reviewed in this study, previous studies on Christian education are found to be vulnerable to critical questions about: the realism of the research subjects, the balance in the research types and the validity of the research data. As these can also be understood as methodological questions, total 306 articles are classified by research types, and analyzed by criteria such as source of information and comprehensiveness of data collection and relevance and concreteness of data analysis. According to the analysis results, if classified by research types, more than 80% of the number of total articles are literature studies. When reviewed by data collection, experimental studies contained primary sources of Christian education field the most, while literature studies had the least. When considered by data analysis, experimental and developmental studies suggested direct and concrete solutions to the problems occurring in the fields, while literature studies mostly suggested macroscopic implications not directly related to Christian education fields. The research type may not be the only and critical factor that accelerates disconnection between theory and practice, but it implies at least that Christian education should cope with its bias to literature studies. Based on these implications, this study proposes design-based research as an alternative research paradigm for Christian education. Design-based research is a iterative and participatory approach which starts from having critical minds for the practical effectiveness of a research, and reflects researcher and practitioners’ feedback to research and design. This study is meaningful in its suggestions for alternative research paradigm to enhance the interconnection between theory and practice in Christian education. Besides, it is meaningful recognition that design of a learning environment is not an “artificial prescription,” but an “artistic description” that completes through communication between Christian educators and practitioners. Follow-on studies may include development of indicators by research types to check if articles follow appropriate research methods and procedures.
