지도를 통해 본 조선과 청의 定界와 변경 인식의 변화

국문 초록

백두산과 압록강, 두만강 지역을 조선 판도 내에 편입시킨 것은 세종연간이다. 양강 지역을 경계로 확보된 영토를 지키기 위한 진과 군이 갖춰지면서 본격적으로 이 지역을 개척하였다. 그러나 열악한 국경 방어체제로 인 해 서북지역 대부분은 군사적 측면에서는 邊地로 인식되었다. 청이 북경으로 입관한 이후 백두산 일대와 兩江 지 역에서 발생한 가장 큰 변화는 조선과 청 양국 간의 국경을 획정하는 定界라 할 수 있다. 본문에서는 定界 이전 백두산에 대한 인식을 먼저 살펴보고, 1712년 조선과 청의 정계 전후 양국의 邊境 인식 변화와 그에 따른 결과로 제작된 고지도의 특징을 비교하여 분석하였다. 이어 1712년 淸差 穆克登의 파견과 함께 전개된 정계의 시말을 당 시 사료와 지도를 통해 파악하였다. 또한 정계 이후 함경도 지역의 백두산과 두만강, 압록강 일대를 넘어 만주 지 역까지 확대하여 제작한 지도를 중심으로 북방 변경에 대한 지리 인식 변화를 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

It was the reign of King Sejong that incorporated the Baekdusan Mountain, Yalu River, and Tumen River areas within the Joseon territory. The area was pioneered in earnest with the establishment of camps and counties to protect the territory secured by the border between the two rivers. However, due to poor border defense, much of the northwestern region was recognized as the less important area. The biggest change that has occurred in the Baekdusan Mountain and the two river areas since Qing entered Beijing is the demarcation of the border between Joseon and Qing. This paper is aimed to examine the perception of Mt. Baekdu before and after demarcation of the border between Joseon Dynasty and Qing Dynasty in 1712 by comparing the characteristics of the changes through the maps of the two countries. Following the dispatch of Mu Kedeng in 1712, to demarcate the Border was investigated through historical materials and maps. Furthermore, the geographical perception of the northern area was considered based on a map produced by expanding over the Baekdu Mountain, Tumen River, and Yalu River in Hamgyeong province to Manchuria.
