국문 초록

본 연구는 브뤼노 라투르(Bruno Latour, 1947~)와 페터 바이벨(Peter Weibel, 1944~)이함께 기획한 두 전시, 《아이코노클래쉬: 과학, 종교 그리고 예술에서의 이미지 전쟁을 넘어서(Iconoclash: Beyond the Image Wars in Science, Religion and Art)》(2002) 그리고 《사물을 공적으로 만들기: 민주주의의 환경들(Making Things Public: The Atmospheres of Demecracy)》(2005)을 통해 우리가 가지고 있는 근대성과 이분법적 세계관을 비판해보고자 한다. 예술에서의 재현의 위기와 우상의 충돌에 대해 다룬 《아이코노클래쉬》 전시에서는 우리가 세계를 이분법적으로 구분하는 행위가 혐오를 만들어 낸다고 보았고 《사물을 공적으로 만들기》 전시에서는 사물과 사회, 사물과 정치, 사물과 문화에 대한 관계를 입체적으로 분석하며 인간과 사물, 다시 말해 인간과 비인간을 구분하던 태도를 문제 삼고 있다. 또한 이 전시에서는 ‘이미지’와 ‘사물’에 대해 다루며 정치를 이야기하는데, 여기서 강조하는 것은 불확실한 세계에서 어떻게 행동할 것인지, 자연의 정치를 어떻게 만들어야 하는지, 사물을 공적으로 만들기 위해 무엇이 필요한지에 관한 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to criticize our modernity and a dichotomous view of the world through two exhibitions, Iconoclash: Beyond the Image Wars in Science, Religion and Art (2002) and Making Things Public: The Atmospheres of Demecracy (2005), jointly organized by Bruno Latour and Peter Weibel. Iconoclash, which dealt with the crisis of representation and the clash of idols in art saw that the act of dividing the world into a dichotomy creates hatred, and Making Things Public analyzed the relationship between objects and society, objects and politics, and objects and culture. It analyzed the relationship in three dimensions and regarded the attitude of distinguishing between humans and objects, in other words, humans and non-humans, as a problem. Analyzing the relationship between humans and objects in three dimensions, the problem is the attitude that distinguished humans and objects, that is, humans and non-humans. In addition, these exhibitions discussed politics by dealing with “images” and “things”, and the emphasis here is on how to behave in an uncertain world, how to make the politics of nature, and what is needed to make things public.
