국문 초록

본고에서는 북한의 IT 제품 및 서비스의 UX 분석으로부터 북한 UX의 현황과 특징에 대한 연구를 소개한다. 북한의 IT에 대해서 상세하게 알려진 바가 없으며 특히 IT에서 중요한 위치를 차지하는 UX 분야에 대해서는 더욱 알려진 바가 없다. 다만 북한에서의 스마트폰의 사용자 수가 전체 인구의 1/5인 약 500만 명 이상이며, 비록 인터넷 사용은 극도로 제한되어 있지만 ‘광명’으로 불리는 국가 인트라넷에서 북한의 많은 주민들이 웹사이트, 온라인 쇼핑몰, 앱 스토어, 메일을 이용한다는 점에서 IT가 생각보다 일상화 되어 있음을 추정할 수 있다. UX가 IT 산업의 발전에 발맞추어 함께 성장하는 점을 감안해 볼때 북한에서도 UX가 꾸준히 성장하고 있다고 가정할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 북한제 스마트폰, 태블릿, PC용 운영체제 및 고려 항공 웹사이트의 UX 분석을 통해 북한의 UX의 현황과 특징을 상세하게 분석하였다.

영문 초록

In this paper we introduce our latest findings and insights we have acquired from our UX analysis on various North Korean IT products. The objective of this research is to understand the current status and the characteristics of the North Korean UX. Not much is known about IT industry in North Korea, and little is known about their UX. However, it is estimated that the number of smartphone users in North Korea is over 5 million - about 1/5 of the its total population -, and have been recognized to own global-level competitiveness in areas such as software engineering, blockchain, algorithms, and AI thanks to their long-term national cultivation policy on IT experts since Kim Jong Il regime. Based on the fact that UX has progressed in parallel with the advancement of information technology, we will be able to grasp their UX status from their information technology. This paper describes the findings and insights gained from our UX analysis on the 4 North Korean IT products and services - a smartphone, a table, a PC OS, and a website - based on feature inspection and user test. Interest and anticipation towards the New Economic Map Initiative and resumption of economic cooperation have risen as the inter-Korean relationship and political climate of the Korean peninsula thawed in 2018. The New Economic Map Initiative is a grand plan that seeks to ease tension through inter-Korean economic cooperation, promote marketization in North Korea, create jobs and a new source of development in Korea, and open the era of northern economic cooperation.
