초등 저경력 교사의 초등학생 성 관련 문제 지도 및 상담 경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 저경력 교사의 초등학생 성 관련 문제 지도 및 상담 경험을 탐색하여 초등 저경력 교사들이 학생들의 성 관련 문제를 효과적으로 지도하고 상담할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 초등학교 고학년 담임 경험이 있는 초등교사 5명을 심층 면담하였고, 수집된 면담자료는 합의적 질적 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 총 4개의 영역과 각 영역 당 4개~6개의 범주가 확인되었으며 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등 저경력 교사들은 학생들의 성 관련 문제를 지도하고 상담할 때 학생 및 부모의 특성, 교사 자신의 기술 및 경험 부족, 학교 조직 내 자원의 부족, 사회문화적 분위기 등 다양한 요인으로 인해 어려움을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 초등 저경력 교사들은 학생들의 성 관련 문제를 지도하고 상담할 때 부담감, 두려움, 무력감, 민망함, 죄책감, 스트레스 및 소진 등의 부정 정서를 경험하였다. 셋째, 초등 저경력 교사들은 동료 및 고경력 교사에게 자문 구하기, 부모와 긴밀하게 협조하기, 구체적인 과제 및 활동을 활용하여 성 문제 지도 및 상담의 어려움이나 갈등 상황에 대처하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 초등 저경력 교사들은 성 관련 문제에 관한 효과적인 개입을 위하여 외부전문가와 전담기관 마련, 제도적 차원의 정비, 가정의 협조, 교사교육 강화가 필요하다고 하였다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 초등 고학년 학생들의 성 관련 문제에 관한 초등 저경력 교사들의 지도 및 상담 역량 향상을 위한 시사점을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구방향이 제시되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore early-career elementary school teachers’ experience of providing guidance and counseling for sexual behavior problems among elementary students. In-depth interviews were conducted with five elementary school teachers who have experienced teaching upper grade elementary students. The collected data from the interviews were analyzed through Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) method. This study identified four domains with four to six categories per each domain and main results were the followings. First, early-career elementary school teachers experienced difficulties with educating students’ sexual behavior problems for multiple factors: characteristics of students and parents, lack of teaching/counseling skills and experience, lack of school support and resources, and socio-cultural atmosphere. Second, early-career elementary school teachers reported experiencing negative emotions such as pressure, fear, helplessness, embarrassment, guilt, stress, and burnout. Third, the strategies of early-career elementary school teachers for coping with these difficulties were the followings: consulting with co-workers or other experienced teachers, closely cooperating with parents, and employing specific assignments and activities. Lastly, early-career elementary school teachers responded that various supporting measures such as involvement of outside experts, establishment of exclusive agency, efforts at a national or institutional level, cooperation from families, and reinforcement of teacher training are needed to make an effective intervention. We suggested implications for improving early-career elementary school teachers’ counseling and guidance competencies in dealing with students problematic sexual behavior. The limitations of this study and directions for further research are also discussed.
