랜덤 포레스트를 활용한 고등학생의 진로개발역량 예측변수 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등학생의 진로개발역량 수준을 파악하고, 진로개발역량 예측변수를 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 『초·중등 진로교육 현황조사 2019』자료에 머신러닝 기법인 랜덤 포레스트(random forest)를 적용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 특히, 학교 유형(일반고, 특목고, 특성화고)에 따라 진로개발역량 하위요인(자기이해와 사회성, 직업이해, 진로탐색, 진로설계와 준비도)에서 도출된 주요 예측변수에 차이가 있는지 탐색하였다. 분석결과, 네 개의 진로개발역량 하위요인에서 특목고 학생은 가장 높은 수준을 보인 반면, 특성화고 학생은 가장 낮은 수준을 보였다. 둘째, 랜덤 포레스트 분석에 포함된 316개 변수 중 총 59개의 변수(학생변수 45개, 부모변수 2개, 학교변수 12개)가 네 개의 진로개발역량 하위요인에서 중요도 지수 상위 30위에 한 번 이상 선택되었다. 구체적으로,‘학습동기’,‘도전정신’,‘학습태도’는 학교 유형과 진로개발역량 하위요인에 관계없이 중요도 지수가 높게 나타났다. 또한 선행연구와 같이 ‘학교나 외부 기관에서의 진로활동 및 체험’,‘학교생활’,‘흥미와 적성 및 희망직업(꿈)’,‘학교 및 학과 선택’,‘공부(학습)와 성적에 대한 부모와의 대화 빈도’도 주요 변수로 선택되었다. 이 외에도‘교직경력’,‘재적 학생 수’,‘창의적 체험활동 전체 시수’,‘월 평균 학생 진로상담 횟수’,‘직업인 특강･멘토링(강연형･대화형) 실시 횟수’,‘학부모 대상 연수(진로아카데미 등) 연간 학부모 참여 인원’,‘진로체험처 수-청소년 및 시민단체’ 등 학교변수가 새롭게 선택되었다. 마지막으로 연구결과를 바탕으로 고등학생 진로개발역량 증진을 위한 방안을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the levels of career development competence and to explore variables affecting career development competence of high school students. To do this, Random Forest was applied to “Korea Career Education Survey 2019”. Specifically, this study compared similarities and differences among main predictors according to school types (i.e., general high school, special-purpose high school, and vocational high school) and 4 different sub-scales of career development competence (i.e., ‘self-understanding and social competence’, ‘job understanding’, ‘career exploration’, and ‘career design and preparation’). As results, first, special-purpose high school students showed the highest level while vocational high school students showed the lowest level across 4 sub-scales of career development competence. Second, the Random Forest analysis revealed a total of 59 (45 student, 2 parent and 12 school) variables among 315 variables were ranked at least once in the top 30 in the importance index across 4 sub-scales of career development competence. Specifically, academic motivation, challenging spirit and learning attitude were predictors with relatively higher importance index across all school types and sub-scales of career development competence. Several school variables were newly selected as main predictors affecting career development competence. Lastly, the implications for cultivating career development competence of high school students were discussed.
