『西北界圖』의 만주지역 底本 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 『서북계도』 ‘만주지역’에 사용된 저본 자료를 추적하고 그 과정에서 그 지도의 보다 구체적인 제작 연대를 밝히며 지도가 특히 강조하고자 한 정보가 무엇인지 등을 확인했다. 『서북계도』는 복수의 자료를 종합·가공한 편찬 지도로, 지역과 정보의 종류에 따라 서로 다른 저본을 사용했다. 흑룡강 일대를 그린 1첩은 옹정본 『성경통지』의 ｢흑룡강장군소속형세도｣를 바탕 지도로 사용했고, 2-5첩은 강희 『황여전람도』를 사용해 성경·길림·닝구타 지역을 그렸다. 또한 이 두 지도의 바탕 위에 옹정본 『성경통지』에서 역참·행정 지명을 보충했으며 조선에서 사용해 온 소수의 지명을 추가로 기입했다. 『서북계도』는 만주의 교통·행정·군사 체계를 밝히는 것에 특히 주력하여 각 역참 사이의 거리를 표시하고 역참의 노선을 그려 넣었으며 그것을 다시 조선의 교통망과 연결하여 양국의 교통 체계를 한눈에 조망할 수 있도록 했다. 또 행정 지명과 군정 지명을 구분하고 각 지명들의 위계를 구분하여 당시 만주에 구축된 ‘旗民 복합 통치 구조’를 드러냈다. 특히 그 과정에서 부도통과 성수위로 구분되는 八旗駐防 체계를 표현한 것은 『서북계도』의 주요한 특징이다. 『서북계도』는 복수의 자료를 종합·편집하는 과정에서 다수의 오류가 발생하고 완성도는 떨어졌지만, 만주 지리 정보의 질과 양 측면에서 동시대 다른 지도들과 비교할 수 없는 큰 발전을 이루었다.

영문 초록

This article tracked the original materials used in Seobukgyedo s Manchuria and identified more specific production dates and certain information that the map tried to emphasize. This map is a compilation map made by compiling and processing multiple materials, and so the original materials vary depending on the region and type of information. The first piece, which depicts the Amur River area, used a map in Shengjingtongzhi s Yongzheng edition and from the second to the fifth piece, which depict Mukden and Girin Ula, used the Huangyuquanlantu as a main origin. On the basis of these two origins, this map supplement posts stations and administrative districts using Shengjingtongzhi and some old place names used in Chosun were also added finally. This map focuses especially on defining the transportation, administrative, and military systems of Manchuria, displaying the distance between each station and drawing a new red line, and connecting them with the Chosun s one to give a glimpse of the two countries transportation systems. Moreover administrative districts and military fortresses were distinguished each and the respective hierarchies were represented. In this process it revealed the Manchu Eight Banners system and that is a major characteristic of this map. Although Seobukgyedo was reduced in completeness due to various errors in the process of compiling various materials, the quality and quantity of geographical information in Manchuria are incomparable to other maps of the same period.
