국문 초록

『삼도수군해방총도』는 19세기 초 조선왕조 삼도수군의 해방 체제를 한눈에 볼 수 있도록 8폭의 병풍 위에 지도와 전력 현황을 정리한 통계를 수록한 중요한 자료이다. 이 지도는 경상도와 전라도 남해안의 해안에 대한 묘사와 더불어 통영의 구체적인 모습을 회화적으로 강조했다는 점에서 19세기 초 통제영에서 통제사를 위해 제작했을 가능성이 큰 것으로 판단된다. 그리고 선택과 집중의 관점은 중요 지리 정보가 집중된 지역을 선택해서 강조하는 조선 후기 회화식 지도의 일반적인 흐름을 충실히 따른 것이다. 아울러 정치와 국방 상으로 중요한 대도회의 위용을 보여주는 회화식 지도를 병풍 위에 펼쳐 내는 형식 또한 18세기 이래 19세기에 확산된 중요한 흐름으로 『삼도수군해방총도』는 바로 이러한 흐름을 충실히 반영하고 있다. 또한 지도와 지리지 정보를 한 화면에 통합해서 제시함으로써 공간에 대한 종합적인 이해를 도모하는 조선 후기 지도학의 중요한 양상도 『삼도수군해방총도』에 잘 드러나고 있다.

영문 초록

General Map of Maritime Defence of Three Provinces combines map is an eight-fold folding screen that provides to be seen briefly of the Maritime Defence system of southern coastline of the Joseon territory during the early 19th century. This unique map is likely to have been produced for the navy commander-in-chief of three southern provinces because it emphasizes the importance of Tongyeong, the center of the maritime defence system with detailed and beautiful painting-like description of this military compound. The perspective of choice and concentration is to faithfully follow the general flow of painting style maps of the late Joseon Dynasty, which emphasizes the area where important geographical information is concentrated. In addition, a pictorial map showing the dignity of a large city, which is important for politics and defense, is also an important trend that spread from the 18th to the 19th century, and the General Map of Maritime Defence of Three Provinces combines map faithfully reflects this trend. In addition, the important aspect of maps and geographical information in the late Joseon Dynasty was to provide a comprehensive understanding of space by integrating them into a single screen.
