국문 초록

한국 창작 뮤지컬은 라이선스 뮤지컬이 한국에 소개된 시점인 2000년대부터 비약적인 발전을 해오고 있다. 하지만 현재 한국 뮤지컬계는 대형 라이선스 뮤지컬의 약진으로 인해 중대형 뮤지컬의 개발이 주춤하고 있는 상황이다. 민관협력 뮤지컬은 이러한 상황의 좋은 대안으로서 고려해 볼 가치가 있는 제작방식이다. 기관의 안정적이며 중장기적인 투자와 상업 프로듀서의 노하우가 만나면 확실한 성과를 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 기관은 홍보의 기회뿐만 아니라 로열티를 배분받아 예산에 활용할 수 있으며, 상업 프로듀서는 지역에서 먼저 소개되는 공연을 트라이아웃 공연으로 삼아 성공적인 상업 공연을 위한 시험무대로 활용할 수 있기 때문이다. 대형 공연은 많은 인력과 자본이 투입되어 장기 공연을 목적으로 하기 때문에 작품의 성공을 예단(豫斷)하고, 작품을 보완을 할 수 있는 기간이 필수적으로 필요하다. 하지만 트라이아웃 또한 상당한 비용이 발생하기 때문에 쉽사리 진행할 수가 없다. 이러한 필수 과정을 민관협력 뮤지컬이라면 어렵지 않게 진행할 수 있다. 본고에서는 민관협력 뮤지컬과 인핸스먼트 계약 방식에 따라 국내에서 개발된 뮤지컬 중 <세종, 1446>을 통해 민관협력 뮤지컬이 나아갈 길을 모색해 보고자 한다. 세종대왕과 소헌왕후의 영릉(英陵)이 있는 여주시와 이미 실존 인물을 주인공으로 하여 여러 편의 작품을 성공시킨 바 있는 HJ컬쳐가 서로 협력하여 시작된 뮤지컬은 리저널 트라이아웃, 해외 워크숍 및 쇼케이스, 초연과 재연을 단계적으로 마친 모범적인 개발과정을 보여주어 민관협력 뮤지컬의 좋은 예로 평가받고 있다.

영문 초록

Korean Musical has been developing rapidly since the 2000s when licensed musicals were introduced to Korea. However, the development of medium and large sized musicals in Korea is stagnating. This is because of the success of licensed mega musicals. Public-private partnership musicals are a production method worth considering as a good alternative to this situation. The public can not only promote, but also distribute royalties and use them for budget. In addition, producers can use the performance introduced in the region as a tryout performance and use it as a test stage for successful commercial performances. Mega musicals are aimed at a long-term box office because a lot of people and capital are invested in them. Therefore, it is essential to predict the success of the work and complement the work. However, the tryout performance is also difficult to proceed due to the high production cost. This essential process can be carried out without difficulty if it is a public-private musical. In this paper, I would like to find a way for the public-private partnership musical to go through among musicals held in Korea according to the public-private partnership musical and enhancement-deal method. Yeoju City, where King Sejong and Queen Soheon s Yeongneung is located, wanted to develop a musical featuring King Sejong as the main character, and HJ culture, who had already succeeded in several works with real characters as the main characters, joined forces. The musical, which started in this way, is regarded as a good example of a public-private partnership musical as it shows an exemplary development process that has been staged through regional tryouts, overseas workshops and showcases, and premieres and replay.
