영문 초록

As a Buddhist scripture for female, Srimala Sutra(勝鬘經) mainly contains Tathagataagarbha(如來藏) idea and is composed of a spoken language that analysis by speech acts is possible. The purpose of this research is to examine Chinese-Koran translation on speech acts in Srimala Sutra. A literature review and a descriptive approach are applied to the text of Srimala Sutra. And the analytical scope is restricted to three categories: promise, imperatives, and question and answer. The findings indicate that utterances with promise meanings functioned as illocutionary acts and were translated literally, but honorifics were added. The utterances with imperative meanings allow us to grasp relationship between speaker and hearer and maintain meanings of source language literally. And utterances of question and answer type reflected performative meanings of source language without any alteration. Through these analytical results, it can be discovered that speech acts in the Chinese-Korean translation of the Srimala Sutra are literally conveyed and elements with difference of language feature like honofifics are added.
