Structural Relationship of Dynamic Capabilities and Operational Capabilities: The Role of Technical Fitness

국문 초록

본 연구는 새로운 시장 및 기술 출현에 따라 기존의 소프트웨어 개발자들이 새로운 기술시장 생태계로 진입 및 전환을 하는데 있어서 동적 역량과 운영 역량의 구조적 관계를 조사하고 이들 사이의 관계에서 기술적합도의 매개 역할이 IT 기업의 성과에 미치는 효과를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 IT 신제품 및 신서비스개발에 참여한 경험이 있는 227명의 소프트웨어 개발자로부터 수집된 데이터를 사용하여 PLS구조방정식 모델을 적용하여 분석하였다. 실증분석 결과, 운영역량은 동적 역량과 기업성과 간의 관계를 부분 매개하고, 기술적합도 또한 본 구조모형에서 기업성과간의 관계를 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 동적 역량 그 자체로는 기업의 성과에 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났으며 운영역량의 매개역할을 통해서 동적 역량이 기업의 성과에 영향이 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기술적합도의 매개효과를 검증함으로써, 기존 및 신생 기업들이 새로운 기술 및 시장의 출현 상황에서, 새로운 분야의 진입과 전환의 단계에서 동적 역량과 운영역량이 어떻게 작동하는가를 제시하였다는 점에서 이론적 및 실무적 의미를 지니고 있다. 연구결과는 IT 기업들이 새로운 기술 및 시장 환경 변화의 맞게 변모하기 위해서는 고객의 기대를 능가하고 니즈를 선도할 수 있는 제품 및 서비스 품질 그리고 기능을 향상시키는 활동업무에 주력해야 하는 선제적인 방안을 수립할 필요성을 제시하고 있다. 연구결과를 토대로 연구의 한계 및 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the relationship of dynamic capabilities, operational capabilities, and their influence on performance and introduces technical fitness as a mediating driver, which has not yet been considered in the literature. Applying partial least square-structural equation modeling to the data collected from a sample of 227 software developers experienced in a new product and service development in IT fields, the study finds that operational capabilities play a partial mediator on the relationship between dynamic capabilities and performance, and technical fitness has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between operational capabilities and performance. In particular, it shows that dynamic capabilities per se have an insignificant influence on performance but have a significant influence on performance through the mediating role of operational capabilities. It has both theoretical and practical implications in that proposing how existing and emerging firms can work in the stage of transformation or start-up under the advent of the new technologies and markets. Furthermore, it suggests that IT firms need to focus on establishing preemptive measures that enhance product and service quality and functionality that can surpass customer expectations and lead needs in order to transform new technologies and marketplace changes. Based on the results of the study, the limitations of the study and the direction of future research were suggested.
