그림 속으로 들어간 간성의 명소, 청간정

국문 초록

고려와 조선의 지방수령들과 방문자들이 감행한 조경과 탐방, 그들이 주도한 문학 창작과 미술 제작은 지역의 개별 장소가 명소로 전환되는 데에 기여하였다. 특정 장소를 문화적 공간으로 전환시키는 인문전통과 관행이 17-18세기 동아시아에서의 새로운 조류와 만나게 되자 실경·풍속 등 현실에 대한 관심이 확산되면서 청간정도를 포함한 금강산도와 관동팔경도가 특정한 도상을 가진 화제로 거듭나게 되었던 것이다. 이 변화와 화단의 관계를 연결시켜 설명하고자 본고는 우선 지리지와 지도를 조사해 청간정이 간성의 대표 명소로 확립되기까지의 추이와 결정적 시점을 확인하고자 하였다. 그 결과 고려시대부터 만경대로 대변된 간성의 명소가 1560년 이후 청간정으로 바뀐 현상을 강원도 및 간성을 재현한 지도에서 파악하였다. 또한 현존 청간정도를 18세기 전반, 18세기 후반, 19세기의 시기별로 고찰하되 그 도상의 성립과 변형을 화가-후원자 네트워크, 도시수요자를 위한 공간, 유통·매매의 공간 등 화단 구조와 연결시켜 고찰하고자 했다. 그래서 바닷가에 인접한 청간정과 만경루, 만경대를 그린 청간정도의 도상이 18세기에 확립되었고, 1788년 봉명사경 당시 완성된 김홍도 도상이 19세기까지 널리 영향을 미치는 한편, 일부는 자기 나름의 상상에 입각해 자유롭게 그리기도 했음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그 과정에 정선, 김홍도 등 개인이 경험한 청간정 실경에 대한 기억과 인상이 사회적 기억과 도상으로 전환되어 공동체에 자리잡기까지 화가가 만든 초고와 원작에 더해 원본의 모사와 복제, 화가의 작품에 대한 수요와 유통 등 미술의 상품화 징후가 상당히 기여하고 있었음을 포착한 것은 본고에서 새롭게 달성한 성과라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

During the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, several groups of regional officials and travelling elites made daring initiatives in excursion and landscaping, inspiring the creation of literature and artistic works, which contributed to the conversion of regional locations into destinations of great renown across the land. The tradition and customs of these artistic efforts bestowed literary significance to regional destinations, which combined with changes in East-Asian culture in the 17-18th centuries to create widespread interest in realistic depictions of scenery and life. As a result, not only were Geumgangsan Mountain, but also the Eight Scenic Sites of Gwandong, including Cheongganjeong Pavilion, were reborn as the subjects of iconographic paintings. To explore the relationship between the rebirth of regional locations and the artistic world, this article will begin by tracing geography and maps to confirm the progression of and find a definitive point in time for Cheongganjeong Pavilion’s rise in popularity as Ganseong’s most famous destination. This examination confirmed that Cheongganjeong Pavilion, represented by the name Mangyeongdae since the Goryeo dynasty, began to be referred by its current name after 1560, which is made evident from extant maps of Gangwon province and Ganseong prefecture. This article will then consider paintings of Cheongganjeong Pavilion of the early and late 18th century and the 19th century to establish meaningful links between changes in the depictions of the pavilion and structural bases of the artistic world (e.g., artist-patron networks, urban consumer spaces, distribution/sale spaces, etc.). Resultantly, it can be understood that as paintings of Geumgangsan Mountain and the Eight Scenic Sites of Gwandong were actively created, depictions of Cheongganjeong Pavilion featuring the seaside Mangyeongru and Mangyeongdae painted alongside the pavilion itself were established in the 18th century. It can also be understood that, while Kim Hongdo’s 1788 landscape paintings came into fruition by special command of King Jeongjo, these paintings had sweeping influence lasting until the 19th century, granting unidentified painters of the 19th century the freedom to depict these images based on their own imaginations. This article reveals that, in the midst of this artistic shift, the individual remembrances and impressions of Cheongganjeong Pavilion by painters Jeong Seon and Kim Hong Do were of significant importance, and this article also uniquely discovers that the demand and distribution of these artists works (original scripts, copies, reproductions, etc.) played an important part in the commodification of art to come.
