국문 초록

이 논문은 19세기 금강산도들이 김홍도의 《海山帖》을 모본으로 제작되었던 원인과 가치를 문인들의 백과사전식 저술 경향과 관련해 살펴본 것이다. 19세기에는 성리학 중심의 학문에서 벗어나 여러 사물에 대한 지식을 수집, 정리하고 문헌적 근거를 밝힌 名物考證學이 유행하였고 이를 기반으로 백과사전류의 저술이 활발히 이루어졌다. 이러한 경향은 금강산에 관한 저서에도 영향을 미쳐 각 경물의 지리적 정보와 크기, 형태적 특징과 명칭의 유래, 역사적 연혁 등을 객관적으로 서술한 새로운 형식의 ‘山水記’들이 출현하였다. 대표적인 예로 李豊翼의 《東遊帖》에 실린 글들과 洪敬謨의 「海嶽記」, 「海嶽傳神帖小記」, 李裕元의 「蓬萊秘書」 등을 들 수 있다. 이풍익의 《동유첩》그림들과 이의성, 김하종의 금강산도들은 이러한 백과사전식 저서들과 결합되어 금강산에 관한 다양한 정보를 시각적으로 뒷받침하는 역할을 수행하였다. 이러한 역할은 19세기에 요구된 새로운 것으로서 의의를 지니며 20세기초에 출판된 금강산전문서나 관광안내서의 내용과 형식에 선행하는 근대적 요소 또한 지니고 있다.

영문 초록

This article examines the reasons and values behind the production of 19th-century Mt. Geumgang paintings modeled after Kim Hong-do’s Haesan cheop (海山帖 Seas and Mountains Album), in relation to the trend for encyclodpedic writing among literati. Scholarship in the 19th century moved away from Neo-Confucianism and toward a trend for studying old and special objects by collecting and categorizing information, and discovering documentary evidence, about them. This led to a proliferation in the production of encyclopedia-style texts. The trend also influenced writing about Mt. Geumgang, giving rise to a new form of “landscape record”, objective texts describing geographical information, dimensions, formal characteristics, name origins and history of each landscape feature. Typical examples include the texts contained in Yi Pung-ik(李豊翼)’s Dongyu cheop (東遊帖 Album of an Excursion to the East), as well as Hong Gyeong-mo(洪敬謨)’s Haeakgi(海嶽記 Record of Seas and Mountains) and Haeak jeonsin cheop sogi (海嶽傳神帖小記), and Yi Yu-won(李裕元)’s Bongnae biseo (蓬萊秘書 Secret Book of Mt. Geumgang). The pictures in Yi’s Dongyu cheop and Yi Ui-seong(李義聲) and Kim Ha-jong(金夏鍾)’s Mt. Geumgang paintings combine with encyclopedic texts to play a role of visually supporting various items of information about the mountains. This role is significant as something newly demanded in the 19th century. It also shows modern aspects, as a precursor to the content and style of treatises on Mt. Geumgang and tourist information texts published in the early 20th century.
