국문 초록

「이화실전」은 애정을 추구하는 방식에서 차이를 보이는 갈등이 나타난다. 한쪽에서는 애정을 추구하기 전에 윤리를 바탕으로 한 도덕적 인간이 마련되어 있어야 한다는 것이다. 또 한편에서는 상황에 따라 애정이 윤리에 기반을 두기보다는 성적 이끌림에 따라 본능적으로 추구해도 되는 것이라 한다. 애정의 추구 방식에 따른 차이는 작품의 갈등을 그려나가는 중요한 한 축으로 작용하고 있다. 또한 여기서 나아가서 작품은 지향하는 사회가 다르다는 점에서 갈등을 일으키고 있다. 한쪽은 신분적 차이에 따른 엄격한 애정 추구 대상이 제한되는 것이 자연스럽고 합당하다고 하는 반면에 한쪽은 신분적 차이가 애정의 추구 대상을 제한하는 것은 옳지도 자연스럽지도 않다고 하는 입장을 취한다. 두 입장은 신분제가 엄격히 지켜지는 사회에 대한 지향를 두고 추구하는 것과 그렇지 않고 신분제가 와해되어 애정이 자유롭게 추구되는 사회에 대한 지향를 두고 추구하는 차이를 투영하고 있다. 작품은 사회에 대한 현실적인 문제를 제기하고 비판하는 의미를 담기도 한다. 사회에 널리 퍼져 있는 신분에 따른 애정 당사자의 제한과 그것을 초월하여 이룩하고자 하는 애정은 지난한 노력의 과정을 거쳐야만 성취 가능하다는 것은 그 밑바탕에 깔린 신분적 모순에 대한 일정한 비판의식을 담고 있다. 이에는 사회에 자리 잡은 모순이 완고하며 쉽게 바꿀 수 없다는 것을 보여주면서 이를 극복하는 과정이 쉽게 이루어지지 않을 것이라는 현실 이면에 존재하는 신분적 질서의 완고함을 지적하는 의식의 일단이 작용하고 있다. 신분이 상이한 사람이 애정을 맺고 그 애정을 온전하게 성취하기 위해서는 특별한 의지와 반대자의 압박과 위협을 견딜만한 윤리적인 기반이 갖추어져 있어야 한다고 작품은 말한다. 애정 추구 방식을 두고 다툰 갈등에는 작품이 사회에 대한 낭만적 기대 의식을 담아 놓는다. 왜냐하면 그들은 작품을 통해 애정을 마침내 성취해야 할 것으로 다루면서 그것을 이루는 당사자로 그들의 대리인이라고 할 만한 인물을 내세워 그 성취를 적극적으로 긍정하고 있기 때문이다. 애정 성취의 과정에서 낭만적인 존재와 그들의 도움을 활용하여 위기를 쉽게 극복하여 지향를 성취하는 형태는 이런 의식을 수용한 것이다. 그들이 하는 애정은 초월적인 존재까지 나서서 성취시켜 주어야 할 정도로 희망을 갖게 하는데 필요한 무엇이기 때문에 적극적인 지지를 받고 낭만적인 해결로 귀결되어야 마땅하다. 이런 점은 작품이 창작된 시기인 19세기 말과 20세기 초에 이루어진 작품 향유와 관련되어 있던 계층이 가졌던 사회에 대한 낭만적인 기대 심리가 있었기 때문에 가능했다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

Ehwasiljeon shows conflicts that show differences in the way of pursuing affection. On the one hand, there must be a moral man based on ethics before seeking affection. On the other hand, according to the situation, it is said that affection can be instinctively pursued according to the sexual attraction rather than based on ethics. The difference according to the way of seeking affection serves as an important axis to draw the conflict of works. In addition, there is conflict in the point that the society in which the work is oriented differs from here. On the one hand, it is natural and reasonable to restrict the object of strict affection pursuant to the difference of the identity, while the other side takes the position that it is neither natural nor natural to restrict the object of affection. Both positions reflect the pursuit of the orientation toward the society in which the system is strictly observed and the difference in pursuing the orientation toward the society in which the identity is broken and love is freely pursued. The work also has the meaning of raising and criticizing realistic problems about society. The limitations of the affectionate parties according to the status that is widespread in society, and the affection to transcend it, can be accomplished only through the process of last effort, it contains a certain criticism of the contradictory position on the base. This shows that the contradictions in society are stubborn and can not be changed easily, and that the process of overcoming them is not easy. The work says that for a person with a different identity to have affection and full fulfillment of his affection, he must have an ethical basis to bear the special will and oppression and threat of the opponent. In the struggle over the pursuit of affection, the work embodies the romantic expectation of society. Because they are actively affirming their accomplishments by dealing with them as though they should eventually fulfill their affection through the work, and as a party to it, and as a representative of their agents. In the process of affection, romantic beings and their help are utilized to overcome the crisis and achieve the orientation by accepting this consciousness. Their affection deserves positive support and a romantic solution because it is what is needed to bring hope to a transcendent being. This was possible because there was a romantic expectation for the society that the class had related to the enjoyment of the works of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the works were created.
