국문 초록

조선 죽지사는 이전까지 중국의 죽지사를 모의했던 전통에서 벗어나 우리나라의 지역을 표면에 내세우며 출범한 양식이다. 이는 초창기에 김종직을 시작으로 남녀 간의 사랑, 역사, 풍속 세 가지 모습을 지니면서 간헐적으로 창작되다가 조선후기로 가면서 편폭이 길어지고 지방의 세세한 정보를 담은 주석이 다량 첨부되면서 지방지로서의 성격이 강해지게 되었다. 그런데 조선후기 문인 박종선의 순천 죽지사 <소강남곡>은 이러한 조선 후기 죽지사의 일반적인 흐름과는 상이한 면모를 보여 주목된다. <소강남곡>은 순천의 교방을 배경으로 그곳 기생들과의 질탕한 풍류를 가감 없이 담아낸 작품이다. 박종선은 순천의 지역적 특성을 ‘풍류’로 간주 하고 이곳에서 포착되는 유흥과 향락의 풍경을 자유롭게 노래하였다. 여기 에는 당시 문인들 사이에서 성행하였던 중국의 강남 열풍, 순천의 풍류를 강조한 여타 문인들의 작품들, 박종선의 염정시에 대한 관심과 서얼이라는 사회적 존재의 특징 등이 반영되어 있다. 박종선은 이러한 다양한 사회문화적 요인들에 힘입어 ‘풍류’적 성격의 새로운 호남 지역 유행가 <소강남곡> 을 창작한 것이다. 남녀 간의 연정을 소재로 한 악부시나 교방의 풍악소리등 음악적 요소를 적극적으로 삽입함으로써 가창성을 강하게 드러낸 것도 특징이다. 요컨대 <소강남곡>은 지방의 정보를 충실히 담아내는 데에 치중 했던 당대 죽지사의 흐름과 달리 풍류와 음악성이 겸비된 조선 후기 죽지사의 또 다른 형태를 시도하고자 했던 것으로, 조선 후기 죽지사의 또 다른 모습을 보여주는 소중한 자료가 된다.

영문 초록

Chosun jukjisa is a form of jukjisa that departs from the previously established tradition of the genre modelled on Chinese jukjisa by placing its focus on regions in Korea. Beginning with the works of Kim Jong-jik, the composition of early Chosun jukjisa was sporadic and dealt with one of the following three themes: romantic love between a man and a woman, history and local customs. Later, in the Ming and Qing dynasties, as the works grew longer and notes were added to the works containing detailed information about each respective region, the regional guide-like quality of Chosun jukjisa became more pronounced. However, the Suncheon jukjisa Sogangnamgok by Park Jong-sun is notable for its divergence from this typical trend of later Joseon jukjisa. Sogangnamgok is a work that candidly depicts the riotous frolicking that was enjoyed in the company of gisaeng in Suncheon’s gyobang. Park Jong-sun regarded ‘leisure’ as Suncheon’s main local characteristic and sang freely of the leisure, amusements and landscape captured in that region. These songs reflect the influence of the Gangnam fad popularized by contemporary artists, and works by other writers which also emphasized the playful spirit of Suncheon, Park Jong-sun’s interest in yeomjungsi and characteristics of the social identity of the concubine. It is these factors that inspired Park Jong-sun to compose the new popular song of the Honam region Sogangnamgok, which is characterized by its ‘playfulness’. Another feature of this song is its strong musicality, heightened by the deliberate inclusion of musical elements taken from the likes of akbusi, songs about love between a man and a woman, and the music of gyobang. Like this, in comparison to the trend of contemporary jukjisa which merely faithfully relayed information about various regions, Sogangnamgok is an attempt to combine the late Joseon jukjisa form with a sense of playfulness and musicality, and is therefore a valuable resource that shows us a different form of late Joseon jukjisa.
