기독교대중문화론의 토대 놓기

국문 초록

  본 논문은 "문화의 시대"라고 일컬어지는 21세기를 지배하는 대중문화의 성격과 의미를 규명하고 이를 평가하며 올바른 실천의 방안을 기독교윤리학적 관점에서 다루는 것이다. 문화는 인간의 의식과 활동의 산물인 동시에 삶의 가치와 의미가 생산되고 실천되는 자리이며, 인간이 그 속에서 자연과 더불어 세계와 소통하는 일정한 관계의 그물이다. 따라서 인간의 삶을 구성하는 문화의 성격과 기능에서 보면 문화에 대한 선험적이고 규범적인 정의는 적절하지 않다. 그래서 필자는 이 논문에서 기독교인의 문화 이해와 문화 실천에서 올바른 태도를 모색하고, 어떻게 진정한 문화의 가치관과 세계관을 형성하며, 진선미의 이상과 삶의 의미를 실현할 것인가에 대한 기독교대중문화론의 토대를 놓으려는 시도를 하고자 한다.   이러한 목적을 위해 먼저 대중문화에 대한 기독교적 태도를 배격, 변혁, 그리고 무비판적 수용이라는 관점에서 정리하고, 이러한 기존의 입장이 문화의 본질과 패턴을 올바르게 이해하지 못하였음을 밝혔다. 그리고 나아가 리처드 니이버(H. R. Niebuhr)의 "그리스도와 문화"의 유형론적 이해를 비판적으로 살펴보았다. 그 결과로써 문화를 이해하는 적절한 방법으로 "문화에 응답하는 그리스도" 라는 대화 모델을 제시하였다.   신학의 주제는 일상적인 삶을 포괄하는 것이며, 대중문화가 일상적 삶을 지배하는 것이기에, 당연히 대중문화를 바르게 이해하고 비판적으로 성찰하는 것이 요청된다. 문화를 부정하는 극단적 평가나, 문화에 순응하고 동화하는 태도나, 또 문화를 단순히 변혁의 대상으로 보는 입장도 현대 문화를 보는 을바른 태도가 아니라고 본다. 또한 기독교대중문화론은 단순한 문화 비평이 아니며, 문화 연구의 단순한 수용도 아니고, 교회의 올바른 문화 실천과 문화 반성을 지향한다. 기독교대중문화론은 현대 문화와의 비판적 대화의 원리에 정초하여, 생명과 해방과 복지를 증진하기 위한 문화 실천을 추구한다.

영문 초록

  This paper clarifies the character and the meaning of the popular culture which rules over the 21st century called as "the generation of culture" and evaluates them and then deals with the methods of proper practice from the perspective of Christian ethics. Culture is the product of consciousness and activity of human beings and at the same time it is the place of producing the value and the meaning of life, and it is the net of a certain relationship in which human beings communicate with the world and the nature. Therefore, in the view of the character and the function which make up the life of human beings, the transcendental and normative definition does not fit to the culture. This is the reason that this paper tries to find a proper attitude in Christian"s understanding and practicing of culture, and tries to make the foundation for the Christian theory of the popular culture about how to form the view of the value and the world of real culture and how to realize the ideal of the true, the good, and the beautiful and the meaning of life.   For this purpose, first of all, this paper summarizes the Christian attitude of the popular culture as the perspective of rejection, transformation, and uncritical reception, and then proves that this attitude did not understand the essence and the pattern of culture properly. Furthermore, this paper critically examines the typological understanding of "Christ and culture" of Richard Niebuhr. As the result, this paper suggests a communication model, that is, "Christ who responds to the culture" as a proper method to understand the culture.   Because the theme of theology includes Everyday-life and the popular culture rules over Everyday-life, it is natural to request to understand the popular culture correctly and observes critically.
