마태복음에 나타난 작은 사람들

국문 초록

  학자들은 마태 기자가 예수의 급진적 선포를 정신화시켰다고 비평해 왔다. 이러한 전제는 정확하지 않은 것이다. 이 글에서는, 할 수 있는 한 마태 공동체의 사회적 상황을 밝혀 보고, 그 빛에서 그 공동체를 역동적으로 이해해 보려고 한다. 마태 공동체는 예루살렘 성전 멸망 이후 시리아 안디옥이라는 특수한 환경에 처해 있었다. 그들은 한편으로 회당 유대교와 다른 한편으로 로마 지배 체제와 긴장관계 속에 있었다. 그 속에서 마태 기자는 예수의 선포의 파격성을 유지하면서도 그 긴장 속에 있는 구성원들에게 예수께서 하나님의 나라를 세우시고 구원하신다는 비전을 제시해 주려고 하였다.   마태는 마가로부터 "작은 사람들"이라는 용어를 받았지만, 마가보다 훨씬 더 강조하여 사용한다(10:42; 18:10, 14). 그는 잃은 양 비유(눅 15:3-7)의 서두와 끝에 "작은 사람들"을 첨가한다. 누가복음에서는 예수께서 죄인을 찾는 데 초점이 있는 반면, 마태는 공동체 안의 넘어지기 쉬운 구성원들을 배려하는 데 초점이 있다.   주석가들은 마태 기자가 "마음이"와 "의에"를 첨가한 것은 예수의 선포를 정신화시킨 것이라고 본다. 이 글에서는 "마음이"가 오히려 인간의 전체성을 의미한다는 것과 "의에 주리고 목마른 것은" 하나님의 정의를 추구하는 것" 임을 밝히고자 한다.   예수는 "작은 사람들" 가운데 임마누엘이라는 이름으로 오셨고, 두세 사람이 모인 곳에 함께하시며, 세상 끝 날까지 함께하실 것이다. 예수 그리스도는 이 작은 사람들과 자신을 일치시킴으로써 그들을 높여 주신다. 마태 기자는 이렇게 자기를 낮추어 작은 사람들과 자신을 일치시키는 예수에게서 성전보다, 요나보다, 솔로몬보다 더 크신 이를 본다.

영문 초록

  Scholars have criticised that Matthew spiritualized the radical proclamation of Jesus. I think such presuppositions are not correct. In this study, I will illuminate the social context of Matthew"s community as possible as I can, and try to understand the community dynamically. Matthew"s community at Antioch of Syria was in tension with a synagogue and Roman imperial presence after destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Matthew challenges its audience to live in a radical way of proclamation of Jesus faithfully in its present circumstances. And it promises that Jesus will return to establish God"s empire and salvation in full.   Matthew retains from Mark the term "little ones", but he intensifies its use(10:42; 18:10, 14). He adds it to both the beginning and the end of the parable of lost sheep(Luke 15:3-7). Whereas in Luke"s gospel this parable stresses Jesus" searching out of sinners(Luke 15:2, 7), in Matthew"s gospel it stresses community"s caring for valuable member of the community.   Scholars have criticised that Matthew spiritualized the gospel by adding "in spirit" or "for righteousness" to the Beatitudes. In this study, I tried to show that "in spirit" means "the whole person", and "hunger and thirst for righteousness" means "asking eagerly for justice of God."   Jesus came among "little ones" as the name of Immanuel. Where two or three come together, he is there with them, and he will be with them always, to the end of the age. Jesus Christ heightens "little ones" by identifying himself with them. Matthew finds one who greater than the Temple, Jonah, and Solomon in Jesus who identifying himself with "little ones."
