국문 초록

이 논문은 루터 종교개혁을 사상적 역사적으로 다루지 않고 예술적 차원에서 다룬다. 구체적으로는 종교개혁 과정에서의 루터의 이미지 활용인데, 한국 교회가 말씀과 사역에서 일방적으로 언어적 차원에 의존하고 있는 상황에서 이 주제는 그동안 주목받지 못했다. 루터는 전단, 책자, 성서, 초상화 그리고 제단화 등 다양한 채널을 통해 이미지를 활용하고 있다. 여기서는 ‘그리스도와 적그리스도’를 다루는 소책자와 성서를 다룬다. 루터는 화가인 루카스 크라나흐와의 긴밀한 협력 아래 자신의 사상을 이미지화한다. ‘그리스도와 적그리스도’에서는 교황을 적그리스도로 단정하며 면죄부로 대표되는 가톨릭의 부패상을 선명성과 선전 효과가 탁월한 목판화를 통해 민중에게 알린다. 성서와 관련해서는 종교개혁 운동이 복음, 즉 하나님의 말씀에 근거한 것임을 분명히 하기 위해 특정인들에게 갇혀 있던 성서를 독일 민중어로 번역함으로써 무지한 사제를 포함해 민중들을 위한 선물로 제공한다. 성서는 당시 발전한 인쇄술과 읽을 준비가 되어있던 민중들에게 광범위하게 확산된다. 루터의 이미지 활용은 종교개혁 운동 과정에서의 사건들과 관련이 있지만, 근본적으로는 가톨릭의 정체를 드러내고 십자가 아래 믿음의 투항을 강권하기 위한 것이었다. 그것은 본질적으로는 진실한 정보를 알리고 참 지식을 가르 치려는 교육적 행위이다. 이와 같은 루터의 이미지 활용으로부터 한국 교회는 사상과 비판과 성서가 이미지화될 수 있음을 인식하여 시각적 취향이 강한 현세대들에게 근접할 수 있는 구체적 교육적 예술 방안들을 개발할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper deals with the Lutheran Reformation in terms of artistic, not ideological and historical. Specifically, it is Martin Luther’s image use in the process of the Reformation. This topic has not been noticed in the past, because the Korean church has relied solely on the linguistic dimension in the Word and ministry. Luther uses images through various channels; Flyer, booklet, bible, portrait, and altarpiece. This paper deals with the booklet and the Bible on the subject of ‘Christ and the Antichrist’. Luther images his thoughts in close cooperation with the painter Lucas Kranach. He portrayed the Pope as the Antichrist in “Christ and the Antichrist,” and informs the people of Catholic corruption through woodcutting that excelled in clarity and propaganda. In addition, through the translation, he provided the Bible belonging to a certain person as a gift for the ignorant priests and the people. This was to make it clear that the Reformation movement was based on the Gospel, the Word of God. The Bible spread widely to the people who were ready to read and to develop the typography of the time. Luther’s use of images was related to events in the Reformation movement, but fundamentally to expose the Catholic identity and force the surrender of faith under the cross. In essence, it was an educational act to inform true information and teach true knowledge. With reference to the application of Luther ’s images, we need to develop concrete educational artistic approaches that can approach the present generation with strong visual tastes through the image of Korean thought, criticism, and scripture.
