국문 초록

과거중국 당나라와 송나라시기에 선종 사상이 매우 성행하였는데, 그 시기의 회화는 선종사상의 영향으로 높은 예술의 경지에 이르렀었다. 하지만 2차 세계대전 이후 서양이 주도하는 세계 미술 시스템에서 중국 현대예술은 줄곧 비주류에 머물러 있었다. 설치미술은 1985년 서양에서 중국으로 전해졌다. 그리고 이러한 새로운 예술적 표현 형식은 예술가들의 학습과 모방을 불러일으켰었다, 그러나 중국의 초기 설치미술이 발전하는 과정에서 많은 작가들은 철학적 배경과 작품의 독창성을 위한 논리적 배경의 연구보다는 쉽게 사용할 수 있는 중국전통적 기호나 정치적 비판 등을 수단으로만 여기고 사용하였다. 그러한 문제점은 예술인들에게 21세기에 중국인의 문화적 상징을 대표하는 작품을 어떻게 만들 것인가에 대한 고민을 불러일으켰다. 중국인의 예술과 미학의 사고방식 형성은 중국의 전통철학과 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있다. 선종의 사고방식, 정신추구가 예술에 대한 창작과 심미 사고방식의 형성과 발전에 긍정적인 영향을 끼쳤다. 그러한 이유로 중국의 예술가는 선종과 예술창작의 관계를 탐색하기 시작했고 선종 사상을 예술과 융합함으로서 중국예술의 심미 사상의 깊이와 범위를 확대했다. 본 논문의 목적은 문헌 자료를 학습함으로써, 선학사상의 해독을 통해 선종사상과 예술의 심미, 형식 등의 연계를 모색하고 중국 현대 예술가의 창작을 분석함으로써 중국 설치미술 창작에서 선종 철학의 실천과 표현을 고찰하는 데 있다. 결과적으로, 중국 예술가들은 설치미술을 통해 선종 정신을 재현하고, 물질적 삶에 스트레스가 많은 사람들에게 정신적인 뒷받침을 해주는 인간 내면의 탐구를 일깨움을 살펴볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Zen Buddhism reached a climax in ancient China. The paintings in that period were influenced by Zen Buddhism and enjoyed a high artistic level. However, after World War II, Chinese contemporary art lost its competitiveness in the Western-dominated world art system. In 1985, installation art was introduced into China from the West. This novel artistic form of expression stimulates artists will to learn and also imitation. During the development of installation art in China, many works start to apply Chinese symbols, winning the attention from the West. Yet they did not pay enough attention to the spiritual explorations. How to represent Chinese spiritual culture in art works ? The formation of Chinese artistic aesthetic thinking is inseparable from traditional Chinese philosophy. The way of thinking and spiritual pursuit of Zen Buddhism plays an active role in the formation and development of artistic creation and aesthetic thinking. Therefore, Chinese artists began to explore the relationship between Zen Buddhism and artistic creation, integrating Zen Buddhism into art, and further promoting the depth and breadth of Chinese artistic aesthetic thinking. This paper aims at 1) interpreting the main thoughts of Zen, 2) exploring the connection of Zen thoughts to artistic aesthetics, form, language, 3) combining the examples of creation by Chinese contemporary artists as to explain the practice of Zen philosophy in Chinese installation art creation. In conclusion, Chinese artists re-creates the Zen spirit through installation art, providing spiritual support for those under the pressure of material life, also stimulating people s exploration of the inner self.
