국문 초록

한국미술사에서 양식사에 대한 연구는 분야별로 상당한 성과가 있었지만 그 이면을 보면 편년을 분명하게 알 수 있거나 편년을 설정하는데 기준이 될 수 있는 조형물에 대한 연구는 많지 않은 것이 사실이다. 우리나라 석조미술사의 주류를 이루고 있는 石塔에 대한 양식사 연구도 마찬가지이다. 고려시대 석탑 양식의 특징과 변천 과정 등에 대한 일련의 체계가 구체적이고 명확하게 정립되지 않았다고 할 수 있다. 현존하는 고려시대 편년 석탑들에 대한 현황과 양식적 특징 등을 살펴보는 것은 고려시대 석탑의 역사를 이해하는데 중요한 단서를 제공해 준다고 할 수 있다. 고려시대 건립된 편년 석탑들은 건립 시기를 알 수 없는 석탑들의 편년을 설정하는데 기준이 되며, 시기별 석탑 양식의 특징과 흐름을 파악하는데 유용한 자료를 제공해 준다. 고려시대 편년 석탑들을 통하여 볼 때, 고려 초기를 지나면서 서서히 고려화 된 석탑들이 건립되었음을 알 수 있다. 고려전기에는 전대부터 계승된 석탑의 기본적인 양식은 유지하면서 시기별, 지역별, 장인별, 사찰별 등으로 특징적이고 다양한 석탑이 건립된 것으로 파악 된다. 그리고 탑명을 통하여 왕실이나 중앙정부 차원과 개인적인 차원에서 석탑이 건립되기도 했으며, 대부분 국태민안과 공덕 등을 쌓기 위하여 건립 했다. 편년 석탑들은 고려시대 석탑의 양식과 특징들을 이해하는데 중요한 자료를 제공해 준다는 측면에서 미술사적 의의가 높다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

There are considerable achievements in various fields of research for a form on the Korean art history.
