국문 초록

본 연구는 현대미술의 핵심 화두로 떠오른 참여의 개념과 실천을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 관객의 참여와 사회적 참여, 이 두 가지 범주는 20세기 이후 꾸준히 시도되어왔는데, 참여를 담론으로 형성한 피터 뷔르거는 예술의 자율성 대신 사회와 동시대 환경에 적극 참여함으로써 변화를 구현하는 아방가르드를 긍정적으로 제시했다. 1990년대 이후 여러 시대적, 환경적, 이론적 변화를 바탕으로 이루어진 공공미술을 통한 참여는 정치적 모순의 대안으로서 미술을 기대하는 것으로 니콜라 부리오, 자크 랑시에르, 클레어 비숍, 장-뤽 낭시, 권미원 등의 논의를 통해 변증법적으로 발전하고 있다. 한국에서는 믹스라이스, 옥인콜렉티브 등의 몇몇 예술가그룹이 이론적 맥락을 바탕으로 흥미로운 작업을 실천하고 있다. 한국 미술대학에서도 이런 변화를 수용할 수 있는 교육 프로그램 마련에 고심하고 있는데, 이에 대한 미래 대안을 살펴보려한다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to explore the concept and practice of participation which emerged as the main subject of contemporary art. The two categories of the audiences and the socio-political engagement have been tried since the 20th century and Peter Bürger, who formed the discourse of participation, positively expressed the avant-garde that embodies change by participating in society and contemporary environment opposed to art autonomy. Participation and the public art based on various periodical environmental and theoretical changes since the 1990s is expected as art as an alternative to politically contradictory situation today. Theoreticians such as Nicholas Bourriaud, Jacques Ranciére, Claire Bishop, Jean-luc Nancy and Mi-won Kwon, responded and making progress dialectically through the studies. In Korea, several artists groups such as mixrice, ok-in collective, Flying city, listen to the city are performing interesting works based on the theoretical context. The highest educational institutes of art in Korea are also keen to prepare educational programs to accommodate these changes.
