영문 초록

Diabetes mellitus is known to cause a macrovascular complication which may be contributed by hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia as atherosclerotic factors. The present study was performed to evaluate the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract(Gbe) on serum total cholestrol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein(HDL) and plasma malondialdehyde as a marker of lipid peroxide(LP) in the rats with diabetes induced by streptozotocin(STZ). One half of the 20 STZ-diabetic rats was orally treated with Gbe(80mg/kg of body weight) for 12 weeks and the other was not treated. Diabetic rats demonstrated the significant increases of serum TC, TG, plasma LP and decrease HDL level as compared with those of normal rats. High blood glucose level of Gbe-treated diabetic rats was significantly but not completely lower than that of non-treated diabetic rats. Although there was no change in serum TC level by Gbe treatment, Gbe-treated diabetic rats were significantly decreased in TG, plasma LP and decreased HDL level as compared with those of non-treated diabetic rats(p＜0.01, p＜0.05, and p＜0.05, respectively). It is suggested that Gbe may contribute to prevent an atherosclerotic process in diabetic macroangiopathy.
