시간제 여성상담자의 일과 양육 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 시간제 여성상담자의 일과 양육 경험을 심층적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 만5세 미만의 자녀를 양육하며 시간제로 일하는 여성상담자 9명을 심층면담하고 근거이론방법으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 42개의 하위범주, 17개의 범주가 도출되었고 핵심범주는 ‘나를 잃어버리고 주 양육자의 삶에 갇혀 있다가 아이를 업고 시간제 일을 하며 엄마와 상담자의 삶을 통합하기’로 밝혀졌다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 한 시간제 여성상담자의 일과 양육 경험의 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시간 제 여성상담자들은 생각보다 큰 주 양육자의 삶에 갇혀 ‘나’를 잃어버리는 경험을 하였다. 둘째, 모성 이데올로기와 상담자로서 가지는 양육의 부담은 진로 발달을 이어가는 것을 방해하는 요인으로 나타났다. 셋째, 가족의 지원, 직업적 특수성, 직업과 경제력에 대한 욕구는 복귀 결정에 영향을 주는 요인이었다. 넷째, 이들이 전략적으로 시간제 일자리를 선택하는 것은 다른 직종과는 그 양상이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 시간제 여성상담자들의 적응을 돕기 위해 이들이 경험하는 감정적 비용의 처리에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 결과를 바탕으로 시간제 여성상담자들의 진로 발달과 일-가정 양립에 주는 시사점과 후속연구에 대하여 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study sought an in-depth understanding of the experience of part-time female counselors in working and nurturing. To do this, nine female counselors who were working part-time, raising children under the age of five, were interviewed in depth and analyzed using the grounded theory by Strauss and Corbin(1998). As a result, 42 subcategories, 17 groups were derived, and the core category was “to be stuck in the lives of the primary care-givers and lose myself, then to synthesize the life of a mother and the life of a counselor as a part-timer with a child carried on back.” The meaning of work-and-nurture experience of part-time female counselors based on results is as follows. First, the part-time female counselors have experienced losing their me to the life of a much larger primary caregiver. Second, the maternal ideology and the burden of nurturing as a counselor were shown to be a factor that prevented the continued development of career. Third, family support, occupational specificity, and desire for career and economic power were factors that influenced the decision to return. Fourth, their strategic choice of part-time jobs turned out to be different from other professions. Fifth, the understanding of the difficulties that part-time female counselors face in returning seems necessary to help them. Based on the results of the study, the suggestions and follow-up studies on career development and work-to-home compatibility among part-time female counselors were suggested.
