회칙 ｢찬미받으소서｣의 역사적 기원과 의의

국문 초록

｢찬미받으소서｣는 2015년 5월 프란치스코 교황이 재위 이래 발표한 문헌으로는 세 번째이지만 사상의 직접성, 친저성(authenticity)에서는 두 번째에 해당 하는 문헌이다. 그간의 회칙 중 처음으로 생태를 주제로 삼은 점도 특별하지만 문헌의 진정한 가치는 그 성찰의 폭과 깊이 때문이다. 회칙은 지금까지 현상적 문제 정도로 설명되어지던 환경이라는 주제를 근대의 완전한 도래 너머의 “탈근대성”이라는 철학적이고 문명사적인 지층의 깊이까지 총체적으로 살펴보고 있다. 실로 임박한 생태적 재앙은 오염과 훼손의 누적으로 생겨난 단순한 결과가 아니라 장기적이고 지속적인 생활양식, 문화가 쏟아낸 결과이기 때문이다. 실제로 회칙이 이 재앙의 가장 주된 원인으로 지적한 신자유주의는 단순한 경제체제를 넘어 모든 것을 효율과 이윤이라는 절대 법칙으로 잠식해 들어가는 일종의 ‘문화’ 체계, 모든 것을 지배하는 시대정신이다. 문헌은 환경을 지금까지 익숙한 ‘대상’의 관점을 떠나 ‘관계’라는 개념을 통해 ‘세상’이라는 좀 더 넓은 의미로 확장하고 있다. 그것은 비단 자연만이 아니라 인간과 사회, 물질과 자연, 이를통해 구축된 ‘문명’ 전체를 담는 개념이다. 회칙은 적어도 환경에 대한 지금까지 의 교회의 사유 중 가장 종합적이고 다층적이며 광범위한 성찰이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 문헌은 새로운 무엇을 제시하고 있는 것이 아니라 이미 축적된 교회의 유산들을 탁월하게 종합하고 있다할 수 있다. 본고는 문헌의 교회사적 가치와보다 입체적인 읽기를 위해 문헌에 담겨있는 역사적 기원과 배경을 개괄적으로 소개하는데 목적을 두고 있다.

영문 초록

The encyclical Laudato Si was published in May, 2015. It is Pope Francis 3rd letter from his apostolical siege (Sede Apostolica), but it is assumed the 2nd in terms of the directness and its authenticity. Among his encyclicals, it is the first and special, as the key concept is ecological crisis but its true value lies in the depth and width of his contemplation. This encyclical deals with the environment in philosophical and cultural dimensions thoroughly, which is off-modernism , until that time those concepts were explained only by status quo. In fact, impending ecological crisis is not just simple result which was accumulated by contamination and damage but it is the result coming from long lasting wrong way of life and culture. In Laudato Si , Pope Francis pointed out this disaster of Neo-liberalism is the main cause. Neo-liberalism is the spirit of the times, new cultural paradigm, which governs everything in terms of effectiveness and interest only, which overrules simply whole economy system. This encyclical expands the terms of culture from object to the world through relationship concept. It expanded to the world concept. This concept is not only the nature but also human, society, material and even to civilization built by these. This encyclical is the most comprehensive and multi-step wide contemplation on environment issue so far. But it does not propose anything new but eminently aggregate the already accumulated Church assets. This study aims to introduce the historical origin and meaning of the encyclical Laudato Si , to help to get the Church value in it.
