“육이미후”에 대한 유식사상(唯識思想)적 고찰

국문 초록

서유기는 중국의 사대명저(四大名著)에 속한다. 이러한 명성이 사라지지 않고 여전히 시대에 맞게 변화되어 우리들에게 전해지고 있다. 서유기의 주인공들은 서천(西天)에 도달하기 위해 온갖 어려움을 겪게 되는데, 이를 종교적인 언어로 바꾸어 표현하면, 완성을 향한 마음수행의 길을 걷고 있는 것이다. 중생은 사물을 바라볼 때, 있는 것을 있는 그대로 보지 못한다. 그렇게 만드는 출발점이 바로 무지(無知)이다. 이러한 무지는 번뇌(煩惱)를 일으키며, 마침내 인간은 고통에 직면하게 된다. 유식사상에서는 존재하는 일체의 것이 자신의 마음에서 시작된다는 것을 강조한다. 본 논문은 유식사상의 이론적 연구를 통해 ‘육이미후’를 살펴보고자 하는 것이 그 목적이다. 본 논문은 모두 3장으로 구성되어 있다. 제1장은 사건의 시작과 육이미후의 등장 및 정체성에 대하여 살펴본다. 제2장은 성유식론을 바탕으로 한 유식사상을 간략하게 짚어본다. 이는 곧 인간의 마음을 8가지로 나누어 관찰한다. 즉 아뢰야식과 말나식, 그리고 육식(다섯 가지 감각기능, 가령 보고, 듣고, 냄새 맡고 등과 의식)이 우리의 마음을 구성한다. 제3장의 주요 내용은 침투, 망상 그리고 청정인데 이는 제6식, 제7식, 제8식에 해당한다. 동, 서양을 막론하고 인간이면 누구나 마음의 문제에서 자유로울 수 없다. 그렇다면 마음의 문제를 깊이 고민하지 않을 수가 없다. 서유기 또한 여전히 많은 사람들에게 인기를 누리고 있다는 것은 인간의 본질에 관한 문제를 다루고 있기 때문이라고 해석해 볼 수 있다. 분명히 존재하고 있는 마음의 문제들을 비록 소설이지만, 유식사상들을 통해 묘사해보려는 의도에서 기존의 연구와는 달리 서유기를 완전히 새롭게 해석하고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 목적이다.

영문 초록

“Journey to the West” is one of Four Great Classical Novel of China. It is handed down to us in tune with the times without losing its reputation. Protagonists of this literature go through those ordeals in order to reach the Western Paridise. in other words of religious terms, it is practicing asceticism to the perfection of self. The Sattva does not see things as they are. The reason for that is avidya. it brings about klesa, and consequently leads human beings to suffering. The Vijnapti-matra philosophy stresses that everything of existence begins from one’s own mind. The object of study is to examine “The six eared macaque” through theoretical system of Vijnapti-matra philosophy. This paper is composed of three parts. The first chapter describes the beginning of the case, and the appearance and the identity of the six eared macaque. The second chapter outlines the content of Vijnapti-matra philosophy based on “Cheng Weishi Lun”. It is to observe the human mind in eight categories - viz: alaya vijnana, manas and six consciousnesses - the five sense consciousnesses (the five sense consciousnesses: seeing, hearing, smelling, the manovijnana, and mind consciousness) - that are made up mental and sensory reality. The third chapter mainly talks about infiltration, delusion and purity. It corresponds with six consciousnesses, seventh consciousness and eighth consciousness. For all ages and countries, No man is free from a problem of mind. So, we can’t help thinking deeply about the matter of mind. Probably “Journey to the West” is still popular with many readers because it deals with issues about essence of human. Although a novel, it is worthy of research. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is that interprets newly “Journey to the West” by describing the six eared macaque unlike existing research. First of all, it is described by classification of embryological aspect as opposed to traditional categorization. Then, it is presented major persons in “Journey to the West” in the order of the matter of mind. It is sure to say that a reading “Journey to the West” in a point of view from the Vijnapti-matra philosophy is one of concrete steps for focusing on matter of mind.
