국문 초록

양성이라는 단어는 하나의 목표를 가지고 완성되는 결과를 의미하지 않는다. 양성은 상황에 따라 계속해서 성장해가는 과정이다. 그러므로 어느 한 순간에 멈춰지지 않는다. 그러기에 시대적 상황에 맞는 적절하고 효과적인 양성은 공동체의 미래를 위해 매우 중요한 작업이기도 하다. 오늘날, 교회는 신앙의 위기라는 말이 이제 일상화된 것처럼 느껴지는 시대를 살아가고 있다. 이는 양성과 관련하여 더욱 더 올바르고 필요한 양성이 필요한 시대임을 감지하게 된다. 무엇보다 세상과 교회를 살아가는 평신도 양성이 긴급하고 절실한 과제임을 보게 된다. 왜냐하면 오늘날 냉담자 증가, 신자의 고령화, 주일미사 참여자의 감소, 유사종교의 득세 등 교회는 복음선포를 통한 신앙 전수라 는 본질적인 역할에서부터 위기를 맞고 있기 때문이다. 그러기에 평신도 양성과 관련한 교회의 가르침과 시대적 적용을 다시 살펴봄으로써, 이 시대에 부합한 지속적인 양성의 방향을 계속해서 모색해 나가야 한다. 그 중심에 1988년 요한 바오로 2세의 사도적 권고 ‘평신도 그리스도인’이 있다. 2차 바티칸 공의회 이후 평신도 양성이라는 주제를 다시 소환한 문헌이 바로 이 권고이다. 그러므로 본 논문은 이 사도적 권고가 어떻게 작성되었는지, 그 시작이 된 1987년 세계 주교 시노드의 역사와 내용을 개괄적으로 살펴보고, 그 결과물인 사도적 권고 ‘평신도 그리스도인’에서 평신도 양성을 다룬 5장의 내용을 살펴보았다. 그리고 2000년대를 맞이하면서 평신도 그리스도인에 대한 소명과 사명에 대한 신학적 논의가 다시 시작된 로마 세계 평신도 대회를 통해 평신도 양성의 방향과 발전을 모색하고자 하였다. 위기이자 기회가 될 수 있는 이 시대의 참된 평신도 그리스도인을 위한 양성에 대한 연구가 계속해서 이어질 수 있기를 희망한다.

영문 초록

The term ‘formation’ does not mean a result being completed for one aim. Formation is an ongoing process which grows according to a context, and therefore it will not be finished at one point. In this regard, proper and effective formation which reflects on context of our times is a very important work for the future of community. Today, the Church lives in an age which the expression ‘crisis of faith’ is familiarized. This circumstance reminds us of the significance of proper formation. In particular, it is a crucial and urgent task to foster lay people who are members of the Church and live in the midst of the world. In fact, the Church faces a crisis due to an increase in lapsed Catholics, an aging congregation, a decline in Sunday Mass attendance, and a rise of a pseudo-religion, and it experiences difficulties in playing its role for the proclamation of the gospel. In this situation, we need to examine Church teaching on formation of the laity and ought to seek a way of ongoing formation which is in accord with needs of our times. Pope John Paul II’s 1988 apostolic exhortation “CHRISTIFIDELES LAICI” can be a great help for this task. After the Second Vatican Council, the theme of formation of the laity was resurfaced by this document. This thesis explores the background of this apostolic exhortation and history and topics of Synod of Bishops in 1987 that led to the publication of CHRISTIFIDELES LAICI. Then, this paper studies chapter five of the document which deals with formation of the laity. This thesis also examines the Congress of Catholic Laity in Rome (2000) which caused to resume a theological discussion about the vocation and mission of lay faithful. Through this study, I intend to find a developmental direction for formation of the laity. I believe that the crisis facing the church today can turn into opportunity and hope that the continuing study for formation of lay Christians contributes to create a good opportunity.
