변계량의 輓詩에 나타난 여성의 시적 형상화

국문 초록

이 논문은 조선 초기 대표적 유학자인 춘정(春亭) 변계량(卞季良)의 만시를 살펴본 글이다. 춘정은 36제 43수의 만시를 남겼는데 그중 여성을 애도한 것이 약 절반인 17제에 해당한다. 이는 여말선초의 다른 작가들이 주로 남성을 위주로 만시를 창작한 것에 비하면 특기할 사항이다. 이 논문은 이러한 점에 주목하여 춘정의 여성애도 만시를 살펴보았다. 여성애도 만시의 창작배경은 관직 생활을 통한 교유관계, 여성과 관계된 개인적 불우한 경험, 조선 초기 유자(儒者)들이 추구한 이상적 여성상을 들 수 있다. 작품을 살펴보면, 만시의 전반부는 일상생활 속에서 유교적 부도(婦道)를 잘 실천한 망자(亡者)의 삶을 정리하였다. 후반부는 망자가 떠난 적막한 규방(閨房)의 정경과 상례(喪禮)를 치르는 묘소의 풍경, 친분과 상황에 따라 애도의 층위를 달리한 남은 자의 정감(情感)을 형상화하였다. 여성애도 만시의 의의로는 조선 초기 유교 전통사회가 이상적으로 추구하고자 했던 유교적 여성상을 알 수 있다. 또한, 만시에 나타난 상례 관습을 통해 조선 초 일상적인 삶의 모습도 엿볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis examined the Memorial Poetry of Chun-Jeong, Byeon Gyeryang (1369~1430), who was one of the representative Confucian scholars during the early Joseon Dynasty. He left 36 titles and 43 poems of Memorial Poetry. In particular, half of his poems (17) contained the contents of condolence for women. This is differentiated from other authors who wrote male-oriented condolence poems during the late Goryeo Dynasty and the early Joseon Dynasty. With it in mind, this study examined the condolence poems of Byeon Gyeryang. Against creation background of his Memorial poetry, there are his personal experiences through the official life, his own underprivileged life related to women, and the ideal female image, pursued by Confucian scholars during the early Confucian Josen Dynasty. When examining his works, the first part of the Memorial poetry is regarding the putting into shape the life of the deceased who practiced the female duty faithfully amid daily life. The latter part of his poems configured the scene of dreary women’s quarters, the view of the funeral rites at the graveyard, and the warmth of the remaining people who have different layers of lamentation, depending on their closeness and situations. The Memorial Poetry of Byeon Gyeryang makes us know the female image in accordance with Confucianism, which was ideally pursued in the Confucian traditional society of the early Joseon Dynasty. In addition, we can see the customs of the funeral ritual, performed during the early Joseon Dynasty and daily life form.
