『경성일보 (京城日報)』 의 문예란 (1906~20) 과 식민지 조선의 일본어 문학

국문 초록

이 논문은 일제강점기 최장기간 동안 최대 규모로 간행되었던 조선총독부 기관지였던「경성일보(京城日報)」를 대상으로 하여 창간 이후부터 1920년 전후까지 문학을 둘러싸고 어떠한 논의가 있었는지, 일본어 문학의 역할에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있었는지를 분석한 것이다. 창간 당시부터 1920년 전후까지「경성일보」지면에 실린 문학론 관련 기사를 분석한 결과 대체로 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 주로 1910년대에 전개된 문학론이니 문학적 인식을 보여주는 글들은 주로 문학의 사회적, 국민적 역할에 중점을 두는 경우가 매우 많았다. 그래서 문학이 사람들의 감정을 아름답게 만들고 도덕심을 진작시키며 나아가 사회의 향상과 진보에 기여해야 한다는 의견을 강조하였다. 둘째,「경성일보」가 식민지 조선에서 간행되는 매체답게 일본 현지에서 창작되고 소비되는 문학과는 다른 조선의 시공간을 배경으로 조선의 풍경, 취향, 인사 (人事) 등을 묘사하는 작품의 창작을 적극적으로 권장하였다. 셋째, 식민지 조선에서 일본어 문학이나 예술을 통해 조선인을 동화 (同化) 하고 이들에게 간접적으로 일본민족으로서의 의식을 불어넣는데 일조하고자 하였다. 한편,「경성일보」의 문학관련 기사에서 볼 수 있는 이러한 경향은 단지 이 일본어 매체만의 특징은 아니다. 당시 1900년대부터 한반도에서 활발하게 간행된 일본어 잡지의 문예란이나 문학 관련 기사에서 상당히 중요하게 논의된 내용이기도 하였다. 따라서「경성일보」의 문학론은 식민지 당시 일본어 잡지의 문학론과 동시대적인 인식을 가지고 전개되면서, 나아가 독자적인 문학지면을 확장해 갔다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze “Keijonippo”, the longest-running and most widely circulated daily newspaper published in Korea by the Governor-General of Korea when Korea was under Japanese colonial rule, and to determine what type of discussions and questions on literature had been held from the first publication of “Keijonippo” to 1920s as well as how Korean people understood about the role of Japanese literature. The results from the analysis on the literature-related articles in “Keijonippo” from its first publication to 1920s are as follows. First, the articles about literary theories and literary understanding, the trends in 1910s, focused on the social and national role of literature. They highlighted that literature should make people’s emotions more beautiful, improve people morally, and help society improve and advance. Second, “Keijonippo” was a daily news-paper published in Korea under Japanese rule by the Governor-General of Korea. In other words, different from other literature works published and consumed in Japan, it strongly recommended to create works that described landscape, taste, culture, people, and issues of Joseon. Third, the Governor-General of Korea tried to use literature and art as tools to obliterate Korean identity and culture, assimilate Koreans into the Japanese state, and transform them into loyal imperial subjects with identities as Japanese citizens. Also, the characteristics found from the literature-related articles in “Keijonippo” are not limited to the media in Japanese language. It had been the main issue discussed in literature sections and literature-related articles of many Japanese language magazines published in Korea from 1900s. In other words, the literature theories discussed in “Keijonippo” shared same point of views with the literature theories discussed in the Japanese language mag-azines published in Korea under Japanese rule while the literature section of “Keijonippo” had established itself as a unique literature section.
