영화 「명량」이 주는 사회적 함의(含意)와 명량해전

국문 초록

2014년에 일어난 사건 사고 중 우리 사회에 가장 큰 파장을 일으킨 사건은 세월호 침몰사건과 영화 ‘명량’의 돌풍일 것이다. 극명하게 대립되는 이 2가지 사건은 전자의 반향으로 후자가 크게 각광을 받았다는 면에서 여러 가지 의미를 담고 있다. 영화 ‘명량’은 가히 폭발적인 주목을 받았다. 이 영화로 인해 우리 사회는 다시 이순신을 그리워하며 외쳐 부르게 되었다. 이러한 스크린을 통한 이순신을 재조명하는 일은 이순신 선양에 가장 효과적이며 획기적인 계기가 된다는 점을 실감할 수 있었다. 그런데 문제는 관람자의 상당수가 실존 역사적 인물을 다룬 영화를 사실로 인식하는 경향이 강하다는 것이다. 따라서 본고에서는 먼저 영화 ‘명량’이 주는 사회적 함의가 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 이어서 영화 ‘명량’과 실제 역사적 사실로서의 명량해전이 어떤 면에서 다른가를 집중 분석하였다. 그리고 영화 ‘명량’이 주는 핵심 교훈이 무엇인가에 대해 정리해 보았다. 이순신이 우리에게 주는 최대의 메세지는 유비무환이다. 영화 ‘명량’은 우리에게 다시 한 번 이순신의 교훈을 제대로 배우고 실천하라는 메세지를 주었다고 생각한다. 특히 이번 영화 ‘명량’에서 잘못 구사된 이순신의 전술, 수군제도, 명량수로의 특징 등에 대해서 정확하게 살펴봄으로써 이순신의 전술과 리더십에 대해서 제대로 이해하는 기회가 되기를 바란다. 한편으로 이러한 대중성 있는 이순신 관련 영화를 자주 만들어 국민들에게 이순신을 제대로 알리는 노력을 기울여 나가야 할 것이다. 왜냐하면 이순신이 주는 핵심 교훈은 400여 년이 지난 오늘날에도 우리가 수용할 부분이 많기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The most waving issues in the public in 2014 might be the sink of the ferry, Sewolho and the movie, ‘Roaring Currents’. The two are as conflictual issues that due to the consideration of the previous the later was very spotlighted. Roaring Currents explosively had attention. The contemporary society and the public again happened to miss the nostalgia of Admiral, Yi Sun-Shin by having watched this movie. Filming Yi’s works could be an effective idea and a solution to praise him to the public. However, there is a quite misunderstanding on the movie that the majority of the watchers have a tendency taking the fictions to as historical facts. Therefore, this paper will look what the implication of ‘Roaring Currents’ to the society is. And then, this article will focus on to differentiate between ‘Roaring Currents’ as movie and the real battle of Sea Battle of Myeong Ryang. For the last words, it will memorize what the core lesson from ‘Roaring Currents’ tried to give the message to the public. The precious message that Admiral Yi Sun-Shin alarms us is ‘forearmed’. It is thought that this movie tries to give us the message of Yi’s words that Yi endured his days through the war battles. I hope this article could be a chance to understand Yi’s leadership, strategies and tactics, organization of Joseon navals, and the feature of the Myeong Ryang strait correctly which are all depicted wrong ways on the movie. On the other hand, it is hoped that pop movies such as ‘Roaring Currents’ would product many in the future to get the public eyes so that the people could remind what the Admiral Yi Sun-shin left the heritages to us. There still most messages from Yi are valuable today.
