상촌 신흠의 역학에서 상수역과 의리역의 상보적 특성

국문 초록

본 논문은 象村 申欽이 서경덕의 선천역학을 계승하면서 강조했던 상수역학이 그의 유학사상 전체 체계 및 의리역학적 관점과 연관하여 어떤 의미가 있는가를 고찰하고자 하였다. 특히 본고에서는 소옹의 선천역학을 계승한 그의 상수역학 체계 속에 의리역학과 연관된 의미가 어떻게 내포되어 있는가에 대하여 분석하고자 한다. 신흠에서 理는 길흉선악의 방향성을 가지고 여러 다양한 변화를 이루는 외부 사물들에서 數를 통하여 드러난다. 신흠이 소옹과 서경덕의 선천역학을 이어서 상수역을 특별히 강조한 것은 理를 밝혀 주는데 있어서, 수가 핵심적인 위치를 가지기 때문이다. 신흠은 선천 수리역학을 강조하였지만, 그것은 어디까지나 당시의 의리 쪽으로 치우친 역학 연구경향을 교정함으로써 상수역과 의리역을 종합하고 조화시키려는 목적을 가졌다고 말할 수 있다. 신흠은 『주역』 괘효사나 괘명 등에 내포되어 있는 상징적 의미를 人事에 있어서의 도덕적 함양 또는 실천과 연결하여 의리역학적인 방향으로 『주역』을 해석하였다. 요컨대, 신흠의 선천 수리역학이 지향하는 최종의 목표는 의리역학적 관점에서 도덕적 함양과 실천에 연속되어 있다고 할 수 있다. 신흠의 수리역학은 마음의 함양과 性의 보존, 그리고 數를 통한 리의 파악을 중시하는 의리역학을 위한 토대로서의 의미를 가진다. 이렇게 볼 때, 신흠의 상수역학은 조선중기 역학사에서 상수와 수리를 강조하면서도 이것을 의리역학적 관점에 체계적으로 결합하여 그 연속성을 제시한 학설로서의 의미를 가진다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This essay intended to illuminate how meaning Sang Chon Shin Heum s emblemo-numerology, through which he succeeded Seo Keyungduk s apriority I Hsüeh, has in connection with his total system of confucianism and view of moral-principle science of I Ching. Especially in this article, writer tries to concentrate on analysis and explanation about matters with relation to moral-principle science of I Ching in the system of his emblemo-numerology of I Ching that was succeed to Shao Yong s apriority I Hsüeh. In Shin Heum s philosophy, the principle is revealed through number[數] which is inherent in outward things making a various transition with directivity of luck or misfortune, good and evil. It is because number is a key factor in elucidation of the principle that Shin Heum especially emphasized emblemo-numerology of I Ching by inheriting Shao Yong and Seo Keyungduk s apriority I Hsüeh. Though underlined apriority and emblemo-numerology of I Ching, he had purpose to make emblemo-numerology and moral-principle science of I Ching synthetic and harmony through correction of research trend weighted toward moral-principle. Shin Heum interpreted the Zhouyi in the direction of moral-principle science of I Ching by connecting symbolic meaning involved in the sentence of hexagram and lines, hexagram name of the Zhouyi with moral cultivation or practice for the purpose of human affairs. Summing up, the final objective of Shin Heum s apriority and emblemo-numerology of I Ching can be concatenated in moral cultivation and practice had been stressed in the moral-principle science of I Ching. Shin Heum s emblemo-numerology of I Ching has meaning as basis for the moral-principle science of I Ching, in which puts stress on preservation of mind and cultivation of human nature, and understanding of moral principle through number. Seen like this, on the one hand Shin Heum s emblemo-numerology of I Ching emphasizes emblemo-numerology, on the other it is combined systematically with moral-principle science of I Ching that involves moral cultivation and practice.
