국문 초록

본고는 역사교과서 국정화 사태와 그로 인해 촉발된 논란을 새로운 시각에서 성찰하려는 비평적 시론이다. 국가권력에 의한 역사교육의 독점이라는 점에서 교과서 국정화가 역사의 본령과 역사교육의 가치에 정면으로 위배되는 퇴행적이고 부당한 행위라는 점에는 의심의 여지가 없다. 하지만 이 글은 너무도 당연한 이러한 국정교과서의 문제점을 다시 적시하고 비판하기보다, 혼탁한 논란 속에 숨어 있는 또 다른 문제들을 제기함으로써 역사학습과 역사교육의 목적을 새롭게 고찰하고, 새로운 역사교육의 방향을 제시하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다. 먼저 지난해의 국정화 논쟁은 소위 ‘올바른’ 역사라는 내용 담론에만 매몰되었다는 한계를 노정했다. 그리고 이에 따라 우리에게 단순한 지식의 전달이 아닌 역사적 사고력이나 비판의식의 함양으로 역사교육의 방향이 재고되어야 한다는 점을 각성케 했다. 둘째, 교과서 국정화와 관련된 여러 논쟁들이 ‘한국사’ 중심의 국가주의적 패러다임 속에서 진행되었다는 점이다. 이에 따라 국가주의적 교육과정에서 세계주의적 교육과정으로 역사교육의 방향이 전환되어야 한다는 점이 명확해 졌다.

영문 초록

This is a critical essay on the issues, which arose from the last year’s dispute over the government-designation of history textbook, from a new perspective. As far as the government-designation of school-textbook would be a monopoly of history education by the power of the state, it is beyond the doubt that it is as regressive or unjust decision violating both the true province of history and the value of history education. But this study simply aims neither to point out nor to criticize the problems of the government-designated textbook. Instead, by investigating other issues hidden in the dispute over it rather than delving into such simply questions as its absurdity it purports to reconsider the purpose of history learning and to propose the new direction of history education. At first, the last year’s disputes, due to its excessive focuses on the contents of the textbooks, paradoxically requested us to change the direction of history education from the transmission of historical knowledge toward the cultivation of historical-thinking ability or of critical consciousness. Second, we should have in mind that the disputes over the government-designation of school-textbook had unfolded in the context of nationalistic paradigm centering on Korean history. In this regard, it recognized us that it is a time for us to switch educational course from nationalistic history to world or global one.
