국문 초록

이 논문은 구인회 멤버들이 모임 결성 이전부터 쓴 글을 대상으로 글쓰기의 문제에 개입한 문학권력에 대한 자의식을 분석한다. 구인회의 출현 당시, 그들이 내세운 ‘순수한 문학 연구’라는 말은 그들이 ‘문학권력’이나 ‘정치성’, ‘매문(賣文)’으로부터 자유롭지 못함을 내포한다. 구인회 창립 이전에 멤버들이 쓴 글을 보면, 그들에게 연대와 조직의 힘이 되었던 것은 작가이면서 아직 작가로 인정받지 못했던 ‘자기’였음을 알 수 있다. 그들의 글에는 작가로서의 고독과 열등감, 불안 등이 담겨 있다. 그런 의미에서 구인회가 카프에 대한 대응이나 방어를 염두에 두고 각 신문사 기자들을 멤버로 영입한 점, 생활을 위한 글쓰기를 하면서도 이미 작품성을 인정받은 작가들로 정예화를 도모하여 모임의 질을 유지했던 점에 주목할 수 있다. 구인회는 1930년대 조선에서 문단권력의 존재를 부정하지 않되, 문학의 권력은정치적 이데올로기나 매체의 파벌주의, 편집자의권위가 아니라 ‘작품성’과 ‘작가의 열정’에서 비롯되어야 함을 보여준다. 그들은 구인회를 향한 프로 작가들의 비난에 대응하는 방식으로 자신의 창작의지를 피력한다. 이는 구인회를 작가로서 드러내고, 문단의 경향이 정치성 중심으로 구성된 상황을 흐트러뜨리는 역할을 한다. 또한, 그들은 문학이 저널리즘 중심으로 재편되는 경향을 포착하고, ‘저자-편집자-독자’라는 틀 속에서 이루어지는 문학 활동을 가시화한다. 그들이 기획한 문학 행사, 표절을 조장하는 저널리즘의폭로, 선배작가의변절을비판하는비평의연재, 매문의곤혹스러움을수필로 창작하는 글쓰기 전략등은 이맥락에서 이해할 수있다. 작가들에게 구인회는 문학의 자본화에 대면하여 경험할 수밖에 없는 글쓰기 주체의 자기 분열과 매문에 관한 수치심을 문학적으로 초극하는 과정에서 고안된 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the self-consciousness about the literary power involved in the problem of writing focused on the articles written by the members of Guinhoe before its association. In the 1930s, a writer of the Joseon literary circle was not only a writer who wrote literary works but also an author who had a kind of literary power. The fact that they were not free from ‘literary power’ or ‘literary journeywork’ can be implied by the words ‘pure literature research’ which they put forward from the beginning of the group. Considering the works written by the members of the association before its founding, we can see that a key source of their solidarity and organization was themselves who were writers but couldn’t be fully recognized as writers. Their writings include loneliness, inferiority, and anxiety as writers. In this sense, we need to focus on the fact that the group recruited reporters from each newspaper as a response or a defense to KAPF and the group members had maintained the quality of the group by gathering writers who were already recognized for their works while they were writing for their lives. The ‘pure literature’ emphasized by the group was a literature free from political purpose and different with a writing as a means of living. The members of the association expressed their literary will in a way of responding to the accusations of professional writers. This revealed each member of the group as a writer and had changed the situation of literary circles declined to politics. Also, the group members had noticed the tendency of Joseon literary circle moving toward journalism and showed their literary activities under the framework making connections among author, editor and reader. In this point of view, some aspects of the group, like a literary event planned by them, the exposure about the journalism encouraging plagiarism, serial review criticizing literary senior’s defection and a strategy of writing essay expressing embarrassment of journeywork, can be understood. The members had showed that the power of literature should come not from the political ideology, from the factionalism of the media, from the authority of the editor, but from the ‘quality of works’ and ‘a passion of a writer’ while accepting the existence of a rank of power in the literary circle in the 1930s. For them, the association was designed to overcome the self-divide of the subjective of writing and the shame of the literary journeywork they had to experience in the process of confronting the capitalization of literature.
