소설가 구보씨의 산책과 불화 감정의 정치성

국문 초록

박태원의 「소설가 구보씨의 일일」은 왜 후대의 최인훈과 주인석에 의해 같은 제목의 소설로 새롭게 탄생하게 되는 토대가 되었을까? 이 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 세 편을 가로지르는 공통점에 주목할 필요가 있다. 즉 세 작가들은 세대별로 각기 다른 시간대를 살았지만, 후대의 두 작가들은 박태원의 구보처럼 같은 공간에서 비슷한 삶을 살아간다는 점을 인식하였고, 그러한 공감적 인식에 따라 동명의 새로운 작품을 썼던 것으로 추정된다. 후대의 두 작가가 박태원의 구보에 대해 느낀 공감은, 산책으로 표상되는 소설 쓰기의 의미에 대한 고민의 공감, 각자 자신의 시대와 불화하는 감정에 대한 공감, 소설가로서의 정체성에 대한 탐색과 고민에 대한 공감 등으로 나눌 수 있다. 우선 세 구보는 공통적으로 집을 나와 서울을 돌아다니면서 산책을 한다. 세구보들의 산책에는 60년이라는 세월이 흘러도 공통적으로 나타나는 양가성이 있다. 즉 놀이와 노동 사이의 갈등이 그것으로서, 자신의 예술적 글쓰기가 목적이 아닌 수단으로 전이되어가는 과정에 대한 소설가적 자의식과 그에 대한 고민과 저항이 엿보인다. 그러한 세 구보의 공통된 행위는 비슷한 감정으로도 이어지는데, 세 구보는 공통적으로 세계와의 불화 감정을 느낀다. 박태원, 최인훈, 주인석의 구보들 모두 가장된 명랑 속에 우울을 내장함으로써 모순된 감정들의 공존과 갈등 그리고 그에 따른 정신분열적 징후를 드러내고 있다. 그것은 각기 자기 시대의 지배 체제와 겪는 불화까지도 의미하는 것이다. 결국 이러한 불화의 감정은 소설가로서의 주체성을 찾아가는 것으로 그려진다. 세 구보는 소설가로서의 자신의 운명을 긍정하고 그 나름의 길을 찾아간다. 그 상황에 이르면 세 명의 구보들은 당당해진다. 그 순간 세 구보는 모두 현실과의 타협이나 화해가 아니라 소설가로서 지향해야 하는 자기 나름의 정치적 주체화의 길로 들어서게 된다. 놀이와 노동 사이에서 배회하는 구보의 산책과 불화의 감정은 탈경계화 혹은 탈정체화의 상징이자 소설가로서의 새로운 정체성을 찾고자 하는 의지를 말해준다. 하지만 그 새로운 정체성이란 결국 정주하지 않는 유동적인 것, 즉 주체성의 논리로 전환된다. 불화의 감정은 그런 논리를 보강해준다. 그런 점에서 세 구보가 보이는 산책과 불화 감정은 어둡고 닫힌 세계에 맞선 감정의 정치성을 지닌다고 해석할 수 있는바, 이것이 구보 서사가 세대를 걸쳐 반복적으로 재생산된 이유 중 하나인 것이다.

영문 초록

Why did Park, Tae-won’s novel “A day of a novelist Mr. Gubo” become the basis for the new novels of same title by Choi, In-hoon and Choo, In-seok? In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to pay attention to commonality across three texts. It may be the result of empathic awareness that each generation has different time zones, but similar situations in the same space. In other words, firstly the empathy for the meaning of novel writing represented by walking, secondly the empathy for the disagreeable emotions with their own era, thirdly the empathy for the search for the identity as the novelist. Three Gubos walk go out of the house and walk around Seoul. The walk of three Kobos has an ambivalence that is common even after 60 years. In other words, the conflict between play and labor is the novelist’s self-consciousness about the process of transferring from his artistic writing to means. This reveals his anxieties and resistance. The common act of such three ways leads to a similar emotion, and three Gubos feels common emotion of disagreement with the world. All Gubos of Park, Tae-won, Choi, In-hoon, and Choo In-suk reveal the coexistence and conflict of contradictory emotions and the schizophrenic signs by the emotion of disagreement. In the end, these Gubos seeks the subjectivity as a novelist, and affirm his destiny as a novelist and find his way. At that moment, three Gubos are not a compromise or reconciliation with reality, but a path of political subjectivism which should be directed as a novelist. The walk and the emotion of disagreement between the play and the labor tell the willingness to find a new identity as a novelist, the symbol of the de-identitification. But the new identity is eventually transformed into a fluid, non-dominant logic of subjectivity. The emotion of disagreement reinforce such logic. In this respect, the three Gubo’s walks can be interpreted as having the politics of emotion against the dark and closed world, which is one of the reasons that it has been repeatedly reproduced for generations.
