국문 초록

이 논문은 들뢰즈와 좌파 정치학의 관계를 재고해보는 데 목적이 있다. 비록 들뢰즈와 좌파의 관계에 대한 많은 연구가 이루어져왔다 해도 대부분은 둘 사이의 유사점이나 차이점에 초점이 맞추어져 있기 때문에 들뢰즈 사유가 어떻게 좌파 정치학과 연속성을 갖는지, 그리고 좌파정치학과의 관계에서 들뢰즈의 사유가 밝혀줄 수 있는 창의적 지점들을 밝혀주지 못했다. 다시 말해 지금까지의 대부분의 연구는 마르크스주의의 개념을 명시적으로 사용하지 않는 들뢰즈를 어떻게 ‘마르크스주의’와 연속선상에서 논의할 수 있는가라는 문제에 대해서 깊이 천착하지 않았다. 따라서 이 논문은 바로 이러한 문제를 호출하여 들뢰즈가 자본주의 분석에서 새로운 개념을 창조함으로써 좌파정치학을 구현한다는 것을 밝히는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 제1장에서는 들뢰즈의 정치학과 좌파적 관점에 의문을 제기하는 최근의 연구경향에 대해서 간략하게 개관할 것이다. 제2장에서 계급 적대, 변증법과 당의 리더십과 같은 정통적인 마르크스주의의 개념에 의지하지 않는 들뢰즈가 어떻게 여전히 좌파적일 수 있는 지를 논의할 것이다. 제3장에서 “민주적으로 되기”라는 들뢰즈의 핵심 개념 중의 하나를 자세히 고찰하고, 그것이 어떤 방식으로 마르크스의 “비판” 개념을 좌파운동의 연속선상에서 재창조하는 지를 살필 것이다. 그리고 제4장에서 좌파 이론가들의 개념들이 들뢰즈와 어떻게 근접하는 지에 대해서 간략하게 논의할 것이다. 그들이 들뢰즈주의자가 아니라 할지라도, 들뢰즈와 좌파 지식인들 사이의 개념의 근접성은 최소한 들뢰즈의 철학이 좌파의 이론과 멀리 떨어져있지 않다는 것을 명확히 할 수 있을 것이다. “당 없는 정치”를 주장하는 동시대 좌파이론가 바디우의 철학은 이에 해당하는 적절한 예가 될 수 있다. 따라서 이 장에서 우리는 자본주의 비판에서 새로운 개념과 새로운 배치를 창조함으로써 어떻게 바디우가 들뢰즈에게 근접해가는 지에 초점을 맞출 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to revisit the relationship between Deleuze and leftist political thought. Although much scholarship has been devoted to an investigation of the relationship between Deleuze and the left, most of these studies either focuses on their differences or similarities, and so fails to appreciate the continuity and creative elements in Deleuze’s thought. In other words, most of these works do not engage with the question of how Deleuze is “Marxist” without relying on explicitly Marxist concepts. This paper aims to address this question and to show that Deleuze was Leftist in a sense of creating new concepts in an analysis of capitalism. In the first section we will present a brief overview of current scholarship which questions Deleuze’s political and Leftist orientations. In the second section, we will discuss how Deleuze, without relying on orthodox concepts of class antagonism, dialectic and state-party leadership, remained a Leftist. In the third section, we will examine in detail one of Deleuze’s key concepts of “Becoming-Democratic.” We will see in what ways it is a reinvention of Marx’s idea of critique as a continuous movement. In the fourth section, we will also briefly discuss the works of leftist intellectuals whose ideas have come closer to Deleuze’s. while this does not mean that they are Deleuzian, it at least indicates that Deleuze’s philosophy is not that far off from the Leftist ones. In this instance, we will refer to the philosophy of Alain Badiou, a contemporary thinker of the left who advocated the idea of “politics without party.” Here we will focus on how his approach moves closer to Deleuze in inventing new concepts and arrangements in his critique of capitalism.
