모둠별 애완동물 기르기 체험학습 프로그램이 초등학생의 사회성 및 또래관계의 질에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 모둠별 애완동물 기르기 체험학습이 초등학생의 사회성 및 또래관계의 질에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 애완동물 기르기와 관한 선행연구 사례의 고찰을 통하여 모둠별 애완동물 기르기 프로그램을 개발하고, 학습 현장에 적용하였다. 그 효과를 검증하기 위한 검사지는 이설아(2008)와 김진경(2002)이 사용한 설문지를 재구성하였으며, 연구과정에서 얻어진 자료는 I-STATistics 프로그램으로 분석하였고, 정량적 분석의 한계를 보완하기 위하여 학생들의 학습 태도를 관찰 및 포트폴리오를 통한 정성적 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 초등학생의 사회성 및 또래관계의 질을 향상시키기 위하여 애완동물 기르기 내용을 추출 및 재구성하여 모둠별 애완동물 기르기 체험학습을 위한 교육 프로그램을 구안하였다. 개발된 체험학습 프로그램을 적용한 수업은 실과 교과서에 내재된 내용을 수업한 비교집단에 비하여 초등학생의 사회성과 또래관계의 질의 향상에 차이가 있었다. 그리고 정성적 분석을 통해, 수업을 진행하는 동안 학생들은 각자 애완동물을 키우면서 있었던 일들을 모둠끼리 주고받는 모습을 통해 애완동물이 서로의 상호작용을 보다 활발하게 해 주고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 평소 친구들과의 관계로 고민을 하던 학생이 모둠에게 먼저 다가가서 이야기를 나누는 모습을 통해 사회성과 또래관계의 질이 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로 모둠별 애완동물 기르기 체험학습 프로그램은 초등학교 학교 현장에 적용 가능하며, 6학년 학생들의 사회성 및 또래관계의 질에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구는 초등학교에서 다양한 실과 애완동물 기르기 방법이 요구되고 있는 시점에서 새로운 교육방법으로서 그 가치가 크다고 할 수 있으며, 차후 이와 관련된 심층적인 연구와 교수·학습 활동에 관한 후속 연구가 필요하다고 본다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the experiential learning program of the group raising a pet on the social development and the quality of peer relationships of 6th grade elementary school students in Seoul. To achieve the purpose, documentary and investigatory research was conducted and thereafter the program was developed to apply to the elementary school students. The students were divided into an experiment group and a control group. A reconstructed questionnaire through Lee(2008) and Kim(2002)`s test tool was used to survey the affects of experiential learning program. The I-STATistics program was used to analyze the results. On the other hand, the qualitative analysis was also done to compensate the quantitative analysis through portfolio and observation. The major results of this study were as follows: First, the research developed the practical arts educational program on the experiential learning of the group raising a pet by extracting and recreating the raising pet-related contents from the elementary school curriculum. Second, the developed program had a positive effect on the social development and the quality of peer relationships. Third, according to qualitative results, students appear to be make more conversation among the groups as well as friends in the group raising a pet process. The scene suggests that the group raising a pet was highly effective in the reciprocity among friends. In conclusion, the experiential learning program of the group raising a pet was effectively used to the elementary school students. The program also proved to have a positive affect on the social development and the quality of peer relationships of 6th grade elementary school students. Therefore, in-depth study and follow-up research on teaching and learning activities should be highly considered.
